iPhone4 and Windows PC

Hi

First time poster from Sydney Australia.

I am considering purchase 1Password for my iPhone4 but I have a Windows PC. I understand that a windows desktop version is in beta. What are my options for syncing? I currently do have a Dropbox account but syncing to work with Dropbox, don't I need an app on my desktop?

    Hi Patrick,

First of all, welcome to the forums, great to see how global 1Password has gone <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

At the moment Dropbox is the only syncing option between 1Password for Windows and our iOS applications is to use Dropbox syncing, and to get this up and running you do need the free Dropbox app on Windows as well as 1Password for Windows in order to setup the syncing process. You can get 1Password for Windows directly from https://agilewebsolutions.com/onepassword/win and then follow our Dropbox syncing setup guide here:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html

While you do need to use 1Password for Windows to setup Dropbox syncing, you can uninstall it after you've set up the data file on Dropbox, though we think you'll really like using the two apps in combination.

    Hope that helps,
  • Hi Stu

    1Password is widely used downunder.

I understand that Windows version will only work with 1Password v3 which is not available from the Australian iTunes.

I understand too that I can just use Dropbox as a cloud backup for my 1Password db. I already have a Dropbox account.

To use Dropbox, I understnad that I should 1st get the app for the iPhone, correct? Then, in my Dropbox account, create a folder called 1Password. How does the iPhone know which folder in my Dropbox account to save the db? Is there a setting in the 1Password app on the iPhone to point to a particular folder?

    Hello souwalker,

As Stu mentioned, you will need to first set up Dropbox syncing in 1Password for Windows. This will get everything in working order so that the iPhone app can "find" your data in Dropbox. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Please let us know how it goes!

As far as we're aware the same 1Password 3.5.2 (soon to be 3.5.3) version should be available in all App Stores, it won't actually be called 1Password 3 though, it's either 1Password for iPhone (if you just have an iPhone) or 1Password Pro (if you ever plan to own an iPad)

So it's safe to use the beta version of 1Password for Windows?

Sure, but don't take my word for it, ask the users in our 1Password for Windows BETA forum. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Most people are using it without any trouble whatsoever. Some folks have run into an issue here or there, but the development is moving along rapidly, and Stefan has been paying very close attention to the forum and responding with constant fixes.
