Unsupported Browser Error

Welcome to the forums, lhaile. I'm sorry that you are having this problem.
We are still using the same WebView Apple provides developers but are now using a more accurate user agent string which identifies the browser as 1Password rather than Mobile Safari. The exact string we are now using is:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) 1Password/3.5.3/353009
Mobile Safari uses the user agent string:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5
You might notice that the only thing that is different is the very last bit which identifies the specific browser. Unfortunately, in an effort to actually do the right thing (and not masquerade as Mobile Safari any longer) some sites may have some trouble if they are performing "user agent sniffing" for the browser's name in their code rather than detecting the browser's actual capabilities. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />
Certainly try contacting Wells Fargo to let them know that your browser is perfectly capable of accessing their site if they would stop their old-school tricks. This often feels futile, but if enough people complain — not just 1Password iOS users but everyone using a browser that they do not correctly identify — it may affect some change.
Obviously, the best thing for companies to do would be to properly detect the browser's capabilities rather than the browser's name (which can be false or misleading anyway), but we will certainly continue to evaluate our position on this issue. We want to be honest about "who" 1Password is when you are visiting a website, but we certainly don't want any unnecessary complications either.
Thanks for bringing this up. I have passed this along to the developers for further evaluation.Flag 0 -

I am trying to recreate the problem at www.wellsfargo.com but it seems to be working fine.
Did Wells Fargo update the website already?

I'm still getting an unsupported browser on wellsfargo.com using mobile Safari on my iOS 4.2.1 iPad. Their mobile site wf.com works fine. I really enjoyed the experience of banking using 1Password to access wellsfargo.com. I can cut and paste my password into Safari on the iPad and do my banking, but you know how difficult it is to go backwards when you have seen how good software should work.
Thank you for your support.

Leonard,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We are working on a compromise that properly identifies the built-in browser as 1Password but also identifies it as being "like Mobile Safari" which will go a long way to mitigating the issue. Thanks for your patience. I have an account with Wells Fargo myself. It is much nicer to login directly rather than copy and paste. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0 -
I am having the same problem with Wachovia Online Services. It was working very well through yesterday. Today, I can't login using 1password for the iPad. Using my Safari bookmark on the iPad, I can manually enter the user ID and password and it works very well. I don't have this problem using my iPhone with 1Password.Flag 0

Welcome to the forums, Zinks! I'm sorry you are affected by this issue as well. We have fixed this for the next update. Make sure you stay up to date with updates from the App Store. You will see it soon (but not just yet). Thanks for your patience! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0

Both Khad and I have testable Wells Fargo accounts, and we're happy with the results the next release brings! As Khad mentioned, be patient a little longer and everyone else can be happy too! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0
