Password Generator in Firefox Defaults to Most Digits
In my Firefox 1Password plugin, the Password Generator now always opens to the greatest digit length selected for a password. It does not remember if I chose 10 digit password length the last time. This seems to be a recent bug (in the last month or two).
Safari does not seem to have the same bug.
Not a horrible bug, but an annoyance.
Thanks,
Scott

Welcome to the forums, Scott!
So are you saying that if you go to the exact same web form and field in both Safari and Firefox, that the Strong Password Generator suggests a different overall password length? What version of 1Password are you using?Flag 0 -
I think this is the same thing Scott's reporting.
The password generator defaults to 50 characters, the max. Every. Time. You. Use. It. This is the most irritating thing about using 1Password (so far (think) ).
Some sites can't handle a password that long.
I'd like to be able to specify the default password length as a pref, or have the generator sticky--that is, if it was at 15 characters last time it was used, be set for that when it's invoked again.
If I understand Scott's complaint, it's that when replacing a known password, 1P ought to offer the same length as the old one.

Hmm... That's what it does for me, Ned.
I've captured a little video, just to make sure I'm testing the same thing you're reporting. :)

Not quite the same thing, David. You're canceling and bringing up the generator again. When I do as you've done, I get the same results.
I've been spending most of the day verifying over a hundred logins and updating their passwords. I know I've seen the behavior I've described--and I'm talking about working on one login and then going on to the next.
As I continue, the generator is now offering shorter passwords. Is it somehow learning?Flag 0 -
I'm experiencing the same problem (in Safari this time). I've set it to a length of 15 characters, but the Strong Password Generator always reopens later with a length of 50.
I recently rebooted, and I just tried it. Still defaulting to 50. This behavior seems to be new since the previous version (I'm on build 30645).
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I have seen this happen 2 xs in Safari myself but I cant reliably reproduce it. At first I thought it was just an oops on my end but now I am not so sure.Flag 0

Whats also bad about that, which I believe I reported before, is you were using "Cancel" in your testing. Cancel should not save anything, and restore it, in this case, to the broken behavior of max length. I too experience this in Safari, where the SPG defaults to the longest possible password. I can set it down to 20, which is where I usually have it, and I will get a 20 char long password. The next time I go to use it, it will again be set back to 50.Flag 0 -
I've seen this, as well. I was so happy because I thought I'd been able to reproduce the bug and could document it properly. Unfortunately, when I went to do so, I couldn't reproduce the problem. I have no idea what I did to get it into that state.
I'll keep any eye on things, but if anyone happens to note some reproducible steps, that would really help.
Thanks, everyone!Flag 0 -
Mine has started acting up again--sometimes remembering, sometimes not and going to 50 characters.
It started doing it some time after last evening's restart, when at first it seemed to be working right as I reported earlier.
Shut down the Mac overnight. Desired behavior for a while, then undesired again.Flag 0 -
G
Mine only showed up when I registered for a new site any time I tried the generator where I have an existing login its always correct.
This happened a bit ago with the c-command website
Also note the password listed is not the one I used so it want get anyone anywhere. I have obscured it so no one gets any ideas.
also note I restarted before this happened.Flag 0 -
I think that Chad has pinpointed the issue and resolved it. The changes he's made to the password generator should be evident in the next 3.2 beta.
[Edit] I'm sorry! This information is inaccurate. Chad did indeed make some changes to the password generator, but it was to fix a different bug that was reported. We have still not been able to reproduce this problem on demand, so we still need to figure out what's going on before we can fix it.Flag 0
