Secure Input Bug

I just updated to 3.5.2 and I noticed in the release notes
Updated Chrome extension to work around secure-input bug which prevented applications like TextExpander from functioning.
The thing is, I never had a secure-input bug with Chrome. Chrome works just fine with autosubmit. That bug was with with Firefox, as reported here on the TextExpander blog.

This is the bug at Mozilla.

At first I thought maybe the release notes had a typo and it was meant to say "Updated FIREFOX extension to work around secure-input bug" but I have confirmed, by using 1Password to log into these forums that indeed, TextExpander then stops functioning until Firefox is shut down and restarted.

I would dearly love for this to be fixed. I had no idea there was a way for 1Password to work around the issue. Is there ANY chance a fix for Firefox might be imminent?

This is the first report I have heard of a 1Password issue with Secure Input in Firefox. There is a thread in the Chrome forum related to the Secure Input issue in Chrome, though. We shall investigate.

    Thanks!

UPDATE: My apologies. This is actually a very old Firefox issue. I thought it was new in conjunction with the recent Chrome issue. Unfortunately, this is beyond the control of 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time. Is the issue present in Firefox 4 betas?

    Unfortunately, yes, Khad. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I got excited when I saw the "secure input bug fix" on the new update because even if it was for Chrome that perhaps it might be possible to fix the Firefox thing on your end too.

Oh well, it doesn't look like Mozilla is making any priority out of fixing it.

I can't live without either TextExpander OR 1password so I'll just continue to keep the autosubmit disabled and manually click on form submit buttons. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I wish there was a better solution, but I do not think we have a way around this Firefox bug. Of course, that has never stopped us before, so we will continue to see if learn anything from wrestling with Chrome. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
  • When I read through this, the implication is that everything is fine. Not in my experience. Chrome does not do an adequate job of releasing Secure Input. This has bitten me often with 1Password....and, today, with TextExpander as well. Surely do wish this would get fixed.

Is it possible that you have the main 1Password app running but hidden? There is a completely separate issue which is covered in the support article which is the top hit for a Google search of "1Password Secure Input":

    http://support.agilebits.com/kb/1password-39-for-mac-from-mac-app-store/hiding-1password-enables-secure-input-mode-which-may-affect-textexpander-typinator-and-dictation-in-mountain-lion

Please review the article and let me know if it applies to your situation and if the solutions help.
