How to search within secure notes

I'm trying to search for an item in a secure note and while trying that I realized that the search engine doesn't look inside the notes. At least that's the way it seems to me. I have a note selected and I try various words I see in the note in the search field and 1Password doesn't show any match. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a pref somewhere I'm missing?

Perhaps this is not the intended use of secure notes. I have inherited a Onenote file from someone and I'm trying to transfer the items into on secure note in 1Password, with the assumption that I could then find anything easily with a search.

Any help or suggestion would be welcome.

Thanks,

Denis

P.S. I'm using Version 3.5.2 (build 30806) of 1Password, on a Macbook pro running 10.6.5

You have to make sure you select the "everything" option when you search. See the picture I've attached.

Yes 'everything' is selected and 'everywhere' also. I'd post images if I could.

OK. I see what you mean. You want to search your secure notes like you would be able to in a text editor. I was simply referring to the possibility of locating a secure note that has the text you search for.

As far as I know, searching a specific secure note for text isn't possible. I don't think it's really the intended use of secure notes to store entire documents. 1Password isn't really a document viewer.

I guess you could recommend this as a feature request, though.

Well, I'm not sure that it's the case. I'm trying to find text inside a note yes, but not inside any particular note. I was just surprised that no result was found for a search pattern, so I tried with a word I was seeing the body of the note that was selected (I could see the text so I picked a word in the note as a search pattern). When 1Password found no result I was very surprised.

To reproduce: create a new secure note. Name the note "Famous quotes". Enter the following text in the body of the note: "To the ordinary guy, all this is a bunch of gobbledygook." Then search for "famous" and you'll find the note. If you search for "gobbledygook" it will show "No items found"

1Password doesn't search inside secure notes. Unless I'm missing something.

I just created the note exactly as you did and 1Password does find the note when I search for "gobbledygook."

Have you tried copying all of your note text and pasting it into another note?

The contents of Secure Notes are searched when "Everything" is selected as a part of the search criteria. You can also click inside the note text and ⌘F will search inline as in TextEdit or your favorite word processor. Just thought I would mention this as well. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Any better luck, Denis?

When I search for a word in a note. The note it is in appears but the word is not highlighted nor does the search go to word. Thus if I have a long list of few words (my old password list) I can't find a password just by typing in a word that is in that password line. Any help?

As I mentioned above, inline search is only present once you click inside a Secure Note and press ⌘F.

Please try clicking within the text of the Secure Note and press ⌘F on your keyboard. You can press ⌘G (like you can in TextEdit, etc.) to search for the next instance of the search term.

    I hope that helps. Please let me know. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
