Clarify, Please
Hello:
I'm confused by the following (in the Agile FAQ re: Knox):
Unlike 1Password data files, Knox vaults cannot be opened on multiple computers at the same time. A vault can only be opened on one Mac at a time.
Right now, theres no safeguard to prevent the same vault from being opened on multiple computers. For this reason, we strongly recommend against storing your Knox vaults in your Dropbox folder or on your iDisk at this time.
You can still use Dropbox or iDisk for backing up your Knox vaults, though!
Iff Knox vaults can't be opened simultaneously on multiple computers, why the statement "theres no safeguard to prevent the same vault from being opened on multiple computers"?
Regards

Well, what they're saying is correct but the way it's worded is potentially confusing. Apparently you *can* open a Knox vault on two computers at once but that seems to be a Very Bad Idea. So what they're saying is that it's something you can do but should not. They're also saying there are no safeguards (yet) to prevent this from happening, which is why they don't recommend using Dropbox.
Bottom line: don't store your Knox vaults in your Dropbox or any other place where you might be able to have one vault open on two different computers.Flag 0 -
Selgart, you are spot on. The vaults technically CAN be opened, but it shouldn't be done because it can really muck things up. Hopefully, that's one of the first things that they'll be able to address, to put some kind of safeguard there. Many of the 1Password family are so accustomed to using Dropbox that they won't think twice about having their Knox vaults stored there. We have put the info in the User Guide as well, so hopefully folks will either ask about it or read about it and not do it. Feel free to shoot us an email at support@agile.ws if you have questions as well.Flag 0
