Firefox Problem: Right-Click Menu Disappears

Dr. Loomis

I'm using 1Password 3.5.2 with Firefox 3.6.12 in Snow Leopard 10.6.5.

1Password works correctly in most ways. It captures new password entries, and I can use Cmd+\ to auto-fill passwords.

However, any time there's a form field that can be filled and I right-click it to use the 1Password context menu entry, as soon as I mouse over the 1Password menu it disappears from the right-click menu and the rest of the items collapse down as if the 1Password entry was never there.

After this happens, I can still use 1Password via the keyboard shortcut, and everything is functional. I have 1Password set to show up in the menu bar, and that entry remains there and is completely functional.

The problem appears to be solely with the right-click context menu. If I restart the browser the menu entry shows up again until I mouse over it, at which point it disappears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the 1Password plugin for Firefox numerous times, but it doesn't fix this bug.

As a test I just disabled all of my Firefox plugins other than 1Password in case it was a weird conflict between plugins, but that had no effect on the problem.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix?

Welcome to the forums, Dr. Loomis! (I always want to ask users with Dr. in their username if they are real doctors. Feel free to leave the question unanswered, though.) <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I am about to head out for the night, but I just wanted you to know that I saw your post and will investigate more fully tomorrow.

    Cheers!

Before we go too far, let's try some common troubleshooting. if you have already done some of this, please humor me as the order can be essential. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    1. Download 1Password from our web site:

    http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads

Click on the "Download Now" button to the right of "1Password 3"

    2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running

    3. Open your Applications folder and drag 1Password to the Trash

    4. Drag the copy of 1Password you just downloaded to your Applications folder

Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.

    1. Make sure Firefox is not running.

    2. Launch 1Password from your /Applications folder

    3. Click 1Password > Preferences > Browsers

    4. Uncheck the box next to Firefox

    5. Launch Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is *not* listed.

    6. Step #5 is the most important step so I'll repeat it again here <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Launch Firefox and make sure 1Password is not there.

    7. If 1Password is appearing in the Extensions window, click the Uninstall button on the 1Password extension and quit Firefox.

    8. Return to your 1Password window and check the box next to Firefox

    9. Restart Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is listed.

After following these steps, the Firefox extension will have forgotten everything about previous versions and should work correctly.

Please let me know how it turns out.

Thanks for your help, Khad! This is embarassing, but while following your instructions I found that the "show in context menus" checkbox had somehow become unchecked. That explains the problem. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> Oh well, I guess now I'm sure I have a clean install of the app and the extension as well. Heh. Thanks again for your help!

Oh, and I'm not a real doctor. I just like the movie Halloween, in which Dr. Loomis is a character.

Thanks for letting me know that everything worked out (and the truth about your actual medical background). <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Cheers!
