update has taken away 1password from toolbar of firefox

toktokkie
toktokkie Junior Member
1Password was working fine until the latest update. Now I cannot find it on the toolbar, and the only way to fill in a log in is to open 1Password and then copy/paste each field into the browser window. If this was intentional, it is extremely annoying and much less effective than the previous drop-down menu from the icon in the toolbar. If it is a defect in the new update, how do I get my Password Manager back?

I am running 1Password 3.5.2 and Firefox 3.6.12 on Mac OSX 10.5.8

thanks

Please ensure that Firefox is checked in 1Password's preferences on the Browsers pane. If it is already checked, try UNCHECKING and then RECHECKING it.

I am perpetually having the same issue as well and it's starting to get a bit frustrating. This time I was not able to get 1password back though.

Here are steps I have taken but with no luck.

Firefox updated to 3.6.13

1Password updated to Version 3.5.2 (build 30806)

I uninstalled the Firefox add on from Firefox

Unchecked the Firefox extension in 1password

Quit both apps and cleared Firefox cache

Restarted 1Password and rechecked Firefox 3 box

Restarted Firefox but lock icon is still not there but Firefox reports it's installed.

Control click on password field in a form just to see if 1password is there but just not showing up as the icon up top -- no it is not there.
I also have this issue constantly with Safari as well. (Mac OS X 10.6.4 / Mac Pro Quad Core / 12 GB Ram / 1 TB hard drive)

UPDATE: Note that Safari got hosed as well and I was not able to get the extension back for that.

*** BUT, using Time Machine to restore 1Password to Version 3.5.1.BETA-2 (build 30798) immediately restored my 1password icon and extension working properly in Firefox 3.6.13 but not Safari. At least one browser is working and the one I use the most. I have a huge day of work ahead of me where I need to login to lots of sites and cannot afford this downtime so one browser is better than none. Clearly this is a 1Password issue and not a browser issue so I will let Agile sort it out in the meantime.

Welcome to the forums, highrockmedia. I'm sorry you're having this problem.

Am having the exact same problems as the other guys in this thread. Not sure how long it has been going on. Maybe a week or so? Am able to get 1Password in Firefox now but no matter what I do it wont come back to Safari. I've done everything including reinstalling 1Password and reinstalling Safari. Its a shame, such a great and useful program. 3.5.2 on 1Password and 5.0.3 on Safari. It'd be great if y'all could fix it....

I am sorry you are having this problem, fullboat2. Please try resetting folder permissions within 1Password (Help > Troubleshooting > Reset Folder Permissions), and then "Remove/Install All Extensions" in 1Password Preferences on the Browsers pane.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Hi Khad,

Thank you for trying to help me. I've done that numerous times (the resetting folder permissions etc). Nothing seems to work. As I mentioned I uninstalled/installed and reinstalled both 1Password and Safari. I even tried to figure out what might be different in the extensions folders that are labeled 30653 and 30806 comparing them to a different version of 1Password that had a third folder (don't have that anymore). I don't know what happened but nothing about 1Password is showing up in Safari at all.

It's still a great program but it suffers a bit if you can't access it from the browser....

I too am having this problem where 1P was suddenly gone from the toolbar and context menu in Firefox 3.6.13. I went to 1P and removed all browser extensions and reinstalled them and while the 1p toolbar option showed up again, I still couldn't get access to context menu and none of my pws would fill in. I tried this a few times (but I did not do the above yet) to no avail. What I did do is download the previous version of 1p (the 11/24 version) and now everything is working just fine. I think I'll keep using this version until there is a fix for the later version.

I'm having the same problem since the update, except mine affects only Safari-- I still have the menubar icon in Chrome and Firefox.

    Any solutions yet?

Same here - been working with the 1Password folks for over a week to trey and nail this one. I have it fine in Firefox, but nothing at all (no context menu, no icon) in Safari. My MBA has taken all the same Apple and Agile Web Solns updates and works fine.

It is a mystery - but I am glad to see I am now not alone!

Agile Web Solutions are working with me via e-mail to try and resolve my set up. At least two other posters are in a similar situation.

Clearly the problem is not universal, although it seems to have affected a few people.

Please try downloading the latest beta version which includes some additional functionality for the extension handling. The results should be very different than when you have tried a similar approach in the past:

    1. Open 1Password

    2. Preferences > Updates

    3. Check "Include Beta versions"

    4. Click "Check for Updates"

    5. Download and install 3.5.3.BETA-4

    6. Click "Remove All Extensions" (Preferences > Browsers)

    7. Click "Install All Extensions"

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!
HI Phil, welcome to the forums.

I’m glad the forum was helpful for you and thanks for letting us know that.

If we can be further assistance, just let us know.
  • I had the identical problem and had no luck with either Safari or Firefox on my Macbook. Downloading the Beta has sorted it out for me as well. The thing which was confusing was that an identical setup on my imac continued to run with no problems.
  • Installing latest Beta solved my problem with Safari and Firefox. Thanks Guys

It worked for me, too. I had the 1P button in Safari, but nothing in Firefox. Now I have the 1Password toolbar, the menu bar item and the button in Firefox. OK, it's overkill, but Im so happy!

Btw, it was BETA-3 that worked for me.
