Missing 1Password Button in Web Browser

I posted this in the Beta forum, but it seems the Beta is live...

I cannot see 1Password in Safari at all (having used it for many years).

It had disappeared in Firefox, but I deleted the input manager folder in Library, deleted 1Password, rebooted, emptied trash and reinstalled. That resurrected Firefox, which is a big relief.

However, nothing in Safari at all. No icon, no icon option in Customise Toolbar, no right mouse click etc.

Very puzzled.

Safari 5.0.3 (6533.19.4)

OS X 10.6.5

1Password 3.5.2 (build 30806)

I can get a diagnostics report now (couldn't get it to appear in Safari yesterday), but otherwise Safari and 1Password aren't friends. Which is sad.

All help gratefully received!

I am sorry you are having this problem.

Please try resetting folder permissions in 1Password (Help > Troubleshooting > Reset Folder Permissions…) and then reinstall the Safari extension by UNCHECKING and then RECHECKING Safari on the Browsers pane in 1Password's Preferences.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

My 1Password Button is missing in both Safari Version 5.0.3 (6533.19.4) and Firefox Version 3.6.2

My installed version of 1Password is 3.5.2 (build 30806).

I followed the suggested self help steps for Safari and I have rebooted.

    Reinstall browser extension

    Reset folder permissions

    Manually add 1P button

I also followed all of the the suggested steps for Firefox and I have rebooted.

    Complete reinstallation of extension

    Install in /Applications

    Test using a fresh profile

The key icon in Google Chrome is viewable and works.

I have been experiencing this issue for approximately 2-3 days.

    Any suggestions?

Could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? This will help us track down the issue more quickly. You can generate the report from 1Password on your Mac by clicking the Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report... menu item and then sending the report to us at support@agile.ws using Mail.

Please include a link to this thread in your email message so that we can 'connect the dots'.

Welcome to the forums, BRO. I am sorry you are having this problem as well.

It sounds like your 1Password installation may be damaged, which is likely affecting browser integration. To install a fresh copy of 1Password:

    1. Download 1Password from our web site:

    http://agilebits.com/downloads

Click on the "Download Now" button under "1Password 3"

    2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running

    3. Drag the newly downloaded version of 1Password to the same location as any previous one -- replacing it

    4. Run 1Password at least once and then your web browser

Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

Please try downloading the latest beta version which includes some additional functionality for the extension handling. The results should be very different than when you have tried a similar approach in the past:

    1. Open 1Password

    2. Preferences > Updates

    3. Check "Include Beta versions"

    4. Click "Check for Updates"

    5. Download and install 3.5.3.BETA-4

    6. Click "Remove All Extensions" (Preferences > Browsers)

    7. Click "Install All Extensions"

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

  • This happens to me periodically in Firefox, especially after upgrading to a new version of 1Password. Here is what works for me:

    1. Make sure Firefox is not running.

    2. Launch 1Password from Applications folder

    3. Click 1Password > Preferences > Browsers

    4. Check the "Installed" box next to Firefox

    5. Restart Firefox

Hi, JoeBob, and welcome to the forums!

Thanks for posting that tip. Those steps are the easiest procedure for handling this issue, and we can't be reminded too often to check that first.

I too had been having the missing 1P button. I had done everything in the guide except changing profiles. I was too worried that I would mess something up. So I made my way tho the forums and did a search. Thank goodness!! Usually I stay away from betas. I just don't have the time or energy to deal with them. But considering how close I was to having to find a new password program, I am happy to use the 1Password beta this time.

    Thank you,

1Password just updated itself to build 30852. Afterward, the toolbar icon was missing, and was unavailable in the "Customize Toolbar" dialog.

I walked through the steps at http://help.agile.ws/1Password/missing_browser_icon.html, with the exception of the "Reinstall Input Manager" step (it looks like that step can no longer be performed because the gear icon is gone).

I reset folder permissions through Help > Troubleshooting > Reset Folder Permissions.

    I removed ~/Library/Application Support/1Password and let 1Password recreate it.

I tried deleting /Applications/1Password and re-installing from a freshly downloaded copy.

I tried restarting Safari after every step.

    But still no toolbar.

    In Console I see:

    1/31/11 10:12:06 AM 1Password[23258] launchctl ((

    start,

    "ws.agile.1PasswordAgent"

)) failed (1): launch_msg(): Socket is not connected

And when I try to launch the 1PasswordAgent, I get the same message:

    $ launchctl start ws.agile.1PasswordAgent

    launch_msg(): Socket is not connected

Any ideas how to get 1Password working again?

UPDATE: I restarted my computer and the toolbar button re-appeared.

Welcome to the forums, Alex. I have removed the link from your post since that was for an older version of 1Password. I am glad to hear that everything is working well now. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

For those of you playing the home version of "Where Are My Extensions?!" performing the following steps in 1Password 3.5.4 (or later) should resolve all but the most finicky extension issues:

Open 1Password

Reset folder permissions (Help > Troubleshooting > Reset Folder Permissions)

Open 1Password's Preferences to the Browsers pane

Click the "Remove All Extensions" button

Click the "Install All Extensions" button
We recently made some changes to the extension handling code, so that's all it takes most of the time since version 3.5.4. No need to go overboard. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

    Cheers,
  • Same problem for me, not just the missing 1P button but also latest version of 1Password not working at all on Safari or Firefox. Also couldn't even check the Firefox 4 option in the 1P Preferences/Browsers (clicked box but no check would appear).

Checked the enable beta versions on Preferences/Updates, hit Check Now, and everything works. Didn't have to uninstall and reinstall.

    Thanks! Big relief.

Thanks for letting us know that everything is working well. The update mechanism downloads a fresh copy of 1Password which overwrites your current installation, so it is the same as reinstalling. Please do be aware of what you are getting into running beta software, though.

A beta, whether private or public, carries responsibilities and risk. If you aren't prepared to try each beta update as they come out (sometimes daily), live with issues that cause the application to not always behave like it should *and* work closely with us to report issues and give us feedback then beta testing isn't something that you should consider.

We cannot decide for you how much risk there might be to your use of 1Password during the beta. If your gut is cautioning you then you probably already know the answer!

The entire Agile team uses the latest 1Password beta every day. When real problems arise we issue a new beta release for the beta customers at the same time as for ourselves. We are real users with real stored information in the 1Password data file.

If you want to downgrade to the latest stable version, please follow the instructions in my post above to reinstall 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Hi, I'm having the problem with 1Password 3.5.9 installing the add-on for Firefox 4.0.1. I have tried everything posted here and in every other troubleshooting article I have found, including downloading and reinstalling the 1Password application. Looking at the Firefox addons list, the 1PW addon is listed as enabled. However, upon launch of the browser, I get an error window that says:

The 1Password extension encountered an error:

[Exception... "Node was not found" code: "8" nsresult: "0x80530008 (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_FOUND_ERR)" location: "chrome://global/content/bindings/toolbar.xml Line: 358"]

    and suggests reinstalling 1Password.

1PW seems to work fine in Safari (I don't use this browser often but the button appears and the app seems functional). I had no problems using 1PW with Firefox 3.6 and earlier.

    Other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: After computer reboot, the 1PW button and functionality are now up. One more item to check, for people with problems....

Hello emfarrell and welcome to the Forums!

Well, this is a first for me...a new member who solved his or her own problem before receiving a reply!

I'm glad you found a solution, and I appreciate you taking the time to update your post. You never know who will come across your fix and will be able to get up and running.

    Thanks again for the update!
  • Hey there, emfarell!

Thanks for the update. I am glad it's working for you now. As a Windows user from way back, I am more than used to trying a reboot when I am having a problem. I think sometimes I get spoiled by Mac OS X, though. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Something to keep in mind is that if a file is still in use for whatever reason (especially if an application is still running or it did not quit properly) it will not be possible to update/remove/install it, which can really wreak havoc with browsers and extensions. Sometimes a reboot is the only way to be sure that files are closed so that everything works as expected. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
