It relies upon Dropbox to sync, you will need to move your keychain to dropbox and let it sync then set up the iPhone app for dropbox syncing. The following links should shed some light on the subject

    jvdw, welcome to the forum!

    Tommy's right. (Thanks, Tommy!)

Assuming you're starting with data in 1Password for Windows and an empty data set in the 1Password app on your iPhone, you need to set up Dropbox on your PC, move your 1Password data into the Dropbox folder hierarchy, configure Dropbox sync'ing in the 1Password app on your iPhone, and voila!

In addition to the Automatic Sync'ing Using Dropbox article that Tommy cited, there are a couple of articles in the user's guide with Windows-specific instructions:

[*]Tutorials - Setting up Dropbox sync
If, on the other hand, you're starting with data in the iPassword app on your iPhone and an empty data set in 1Password for Windows, you need to follow the instructions in the Getting 1Password data from iOS to Windows thread near the top of this forum.

  • Hate to resurrect this thread, but I was just looking for this info. I'm currently syncing with Dropbox between Mac, Windows, and iPhone (and possibly Android in the near future), but with the current rash of security breaches with online sites, it's got me thinking about keeping my 1Password database local only, out of "the cloud", like on a USB stick. The only reason I haven't yet is the lack of sync in Windows. It's not often, but I do occasionally have need to create or edit a password when I'm at work, and I'd like to be able to sync that change to my iPhone.

I could always just wait until I got home and sync on my Mac, but that's just not nearly as convenient. That, and not everyone also has a Mac. So getting to my question, are there plans to get wifi (or even tethered) syncing working in 1Password for Windows?

I'm not all that worried about someone cracking my Dropbox password, it's someone breaching security at whatever location(s) their data servers are at that would be the more likely scenario. 1Password generated a very strong, very random password for my Dropbox account. And even if they physically get to the data, I've got a very strong password on my 1Password database that with current computer hardware would take effectively forever for a brute force attack.

Thing is, I know I'm an exception. I got my parents and grandparents set up with 1Password as well, but they refuse to learn how to use it like it's supposed to be used. They don't generate strong passwords, despite my repeated warnings, they just have it store the ones they often reuse from site to site. They sync with Dropbox to their iPhone and iPads, and both their Dropbox password, and their 1Password keychain password are ridiculously weak. Like you wouldn't even be able to complete a full blink of your eye before the passwords have been cracked. It's people like them that I worry about, and would hope that they could use WiFi or tethered syncing to their iDevices, rather than needing Dropbox.

    Thanks for your post, Jay.

We never say "never," but there are no plans to implement Wi-Fi sync'ing in 1Password for Windows, and Apple doesn't allow iOS apps to do tethered sync'ing.

I'm sorry not to have a more satisfying answer for you.
  • Hello, I'm Kai from germany. Allow Android tethered sync'ing? Can I share the 1password database between Android and Windows?

Can I convert the backup file from the windows version to a backup file from the ios version? So I can import the file and I have both systems up to date. So I have no online sync, but it is better than this.

Many people are skeptical when it comes to the safety of clouds, european users especially for US clouds (patriot act).

    Kai, welcome to the forum!

Backups made in 1Password for Windows cannot be restored into 1Password for iOS; backups made in 1Password for iOS cannot be restored into 1Password for Windows. The backup formats are not compatible.

1Password for Windows supports only Dropbox sync'ing.

With Dropbox, you can share and sync your 1Password data among PCs, Macs, and mobile devices (iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 7), as described in the following documents.

  • Hi there,

Can anyone help me and tell me the secret how to sync 1password from 1phone (where I entered all my data) tot windows (which has an empty 1password file).

I cannot find out how this works?

I read a piece on it from the moderator, but the link below is not valid anymore <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' /> can the moderator or anyone help me??
