This is an interesting idea Chris, thanks for sharing!

I recently updated to a new Credit Card and it was hard for me to delete the old one. I kept thinking that maybe I would need the number for something. I couldn't think of any scenario where I would need it, so I deleted the card, but if I had an Archive folder I am sure I would have used it <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Dave,

thank you the fast reply. I might add another idea. I am also moving my old software keys etc. into my archive folder. Who knows, whether I need this information in the future. However, when searching for a certain item, currently I see all of them, new and old ones. With an archive folder life would be easier <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

    Kind regards,

From time-to-time, I've saved login information for an account belonging to a friend or client. For example, when I'm helping with problem, it's handy to use 1Password to access their accounts instead of mine.

I'd like to save these friend/client logins in case they're needed again. But they interfere with my normal use of 1Password when I have accounts on the same domain. For example, I saved Catherine's Amazon login to help her with an order for a new iMac and accessories. After that, whenever Amazon wanted me to login, iPassword presented two login choices (Catherine's and mine).

QuicKeys has an "On" checkbox for each shortcut, a feature I use all the time to hide dormant or alternative shortcuts. I wish 1Password had a similar feature.

The hack I'm using right now is to modify a dormant login's domain so it doesn't match my active login, e.g., "https://www.amazon.com/" becomes "https://www.amazon.comX/".

Thanks for adding your vote for this, Ward. I am all about it! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

You might consider changing the Display value to "Never display in browser" in the meantime. I know it is not exactly the same, but it will at least solve the problem in your browsers.

Its a quiet Sunday morning here and I am doing a little house cleaning in 1P.

I would love to have an archive folder to hide all of the software I have license's for that are previous versions and stuff that I have shelved. It really makes for a bunch to sort thru. I do use tags to narrow the list but I would love this feature.

I have bought several several bundle with 1P in the bundle Honestly I have 6 individual keys and 1 family key.

    Thanks for listening guys.

About a month ago we added the option to "Never display in browser" for Credit Card items if that helps a bit. We're not there yet, but I hope it shows we are listening. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

The Archive folder will require a bit more work, though. Thanks for your patience and support!
  • Yeah I'd like to vote for some kind of Archive facility. In other password apps that are file-based (you can have >1 file open at a time e.g. eWallet) I just moved my old stuff to an "Archive" wallet. But since 1Password is really a single keychain it would be nice to have some kind of archive model. I for one am reluctant to throw away old data just in case, but I don't want old items cluttering my day-to-day keychain use.

What about an archive flag? Just a checkbox that essentially hides "archived" items. They are still there, but hidden unless you select a "Show archived items" option. Yes, all sorts of details I can think of, like should archived items be used to auto-fill web passwords etc, but it would be nice to have I think.

It would be a tiny bit of work, but you could...

Backup your data file (File > Backup Data File)

Create a folder for all of your "archived" items

Export only those items from the folder (File > Export Selected > 1Password Interchange File)

Create a new data file

Import the "archived" items into the new data file

Switch back your main data file

Delete the archived items from your main data file
I mean…for now. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
  • I have attached a 'Defunct' tag to such records.

Then a Smart Folder to detect them…

Simple but effective - although of course they're still there.

    I like Khad's routine better <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />.

I think we all have different methods of dealing with items we want to archive but not delete. I think Gmail has spoiled us. Remember when cleaning up a mailbox or database meant actually deleting things? It was so much more exhilarating mentally and emotionally to really be done with something. Now we just hide it forever even though we never look at again after we "archive" it. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'm still in favor of an Archive folder in 1Password, even if I think we have become a bit silly about "hoarding" data. Oh well, bits are only getting cheaper by the moment. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Ah but forget to switch back and it would play hell with the iOS syncing causing possible issues with the syncing, I see your method causing as much problems as 2 keychains (Like husband and wifes etc or personal and Biz). Plus I don't want to switch keychain when I am occasionally required to provide proof of a previous version.

True now your method works but it could cause issues (major) during syncing IMHO.

I think the for now portion is the right choice <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am sure there are others who run into this. I have hundreds of logins stored in 1Password. Many of them I will no longer need. A few examples are an old PG&E account for an old address I used to live at, an old phone number I used to have, an old Comcast account I used to have.

I would be happy to simply delete these from 1Password, but I don't trust these companies to not become a thorn in my side one day in the future. I can login to most of them, even though I no longer use their services. Emails to them to delete my account go unanswered etc.

I am left with 2 or more logins for the same account in 1Password. Masking them from the quick login of command-\ is simple, I set the "Display" value to "Never Display in Browser". That still leaves them in the main Logins list, which I would like to remove them from.

Aside from putting them in the trash, I can't find a way to get rid of them. I don't want to delete them as I fear I may one day in the distant future need them again. I have tried to use tags and folders, but it becomes more trouble that it is worth to remember to tag, or remember to put all new items into a "active" folder.

As a feature request, an "Archive" that could hold any form of 1Password item, that does not show in any browser shortcut, list, search etc, would be the best way to deal with it. Any tricky workaround are welcome suggestions.

Is there an "Archive" feature I am missing, or are you just pointing me to those links to let me know that Agile is aware of the request? I have already discovered the "never show in browser" feature and use it all the time. If there is an "archive" feature, I am unable to find it, could you point me to the relevant docs on how to use it?
  • Simply referring to a more recent related topics I'm aware of. Likely there are other older ones, maybe with suggested workarounds, that could be spotted in search results for archive.

There is no such feature (yet), implied by khad's remark a few weeks ago:

  • sjk is correct, hexley, at the moment we don't have an 'Archive' feature within 1Password, although this certainly may be something we consider in the future.

I'm in favour of this idea too, I have a few items I don't really want to see in my main vault lists every day, but want them around for those 'just in case' moments.

    Sure, but I personally wouldn't recommend that to anyone as a workaround. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I came by to research for this exact topic.

My particular use case is after using 1pwd for the last 3 or so years, I've now got several creditcards listed in my 1pwd wallet that are no longer valid (or they've just been replaced by a new card/number/expiry date.)

I'd just say "delete the invalid ones" but that doesn't really fly since there are times where you have to put in old creditcard info into sites (for example some car rental places) and I'd just as soon keep the information around in an archived format.

But yeah to keep things need having 6 creditcards with "-old" "-older" etc attached to their names isn't exactly nice. heh

This is something we are looking to improve in a future version, but for now you have a couple different options.

Please consider either creating a folder for archived items or tagging the archived items. You can then create a Smart Folder to exclude the Archive folder or those items you have tagged "Archive."

Another possibility which can actually be used in conjunction with the above is to change the Display setting for the item to "Never display in browser."

I hope that helps a bit in the mean time. Please let me know.

    Hi Khad,

So this is something I had considered before posting, but the odd thing is when I drag something out of the wallet and into a new folder, it stays in the wallet as well. More like a copy than a move. But there wasn't any green plus sign on the cursor or anything. And I can't seem to make it move into there.

I suppose this gap in my knowledge of the product is one reason I don't use folders. heh.

btw thanks for the "don't display in the browser" setting - that's actually what I do now. It doesn't help when I open 1pwd itself to get stuff, but at least it filters the browser plugin.

Sorry for the confusion here. Vaults in 1Password are much like iTunes' libraries (Music, Movies, Books, Apps), folders/tags are like playlists, and Smart Folders are like Smart Playlists. Every item exists in exactly one vault from its inception to its deletion. If it exists in your data file, it is in a vault. Perhaps think of "vault" as "type" instead. The type cannot be changed or removed regardless of what folder an item is in or what tags an item has.

We are still evaluating some other "archive" sorts of options, but I am glad that helps a bit for now! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Does 1Password have a way to archive old username and password combinations?

    Other than deleting them?

I would like to be able to save a lot of old information, without having it come up in the fill-in menu.

    Thanks.
  • Hello mwt,

As you may have noticed on your saved Login entries, 1P does keep a password history for each login. However, user name changes are not reflected.

Personally, I create a Secure Note for each Login where I've used different user name and passwords. Using this method, I never have to worry about the old information coming up in the Fill menu.

    Brandt
