Fill and Submit logins no longer working with 3.5.3

Chris1234
Chris1234 Junior Member
I've just upgraded to 3.5.3.

Now some of my Fill and Submit logins are not working.

And there seems to be a new thumbs-up icon that's I don't recall seeing before. Is there a description of this?, what it does?, why it appears?, and when it appears? Did I miss the writeup?

What's happened to Fill and Submit? is it giving problems on all sites, or just on those that automatically switch to another website for some obscure reason?

Now that I've upgraded to 3.5.3, and Fill and Submit is not working, it goes to the website but no fields are automatically completed..

The Fill Login is suggesting the same url four times, but I have sites listed by the name I use for them, not by url! See the first png - Suggested Logins to fill gives urls only.png - showing the same 1P suggestion four times. I do have three different logins for this site's url and need to distinguish between them, which was working before (sort of).

The second png -my data for this site shows the suggested url just once.png - shows my data for this site has only one entry for the listed url. Could the three different logins for this one site now be causing a problem...

And although I've selected the files to attach, this forum page is not showing me the names of the files...

Edit to upload with 'advanced uploader" also doesn't get files uploaded...

Update. I have used Firefox to edit this post, and now attaching these two pngs has worked. So it was a problem with latest 64 bit Safari 5.0.3.

The new thumbs-up icon I'm asking about is shown for the highlighted Login in the my_data...png for Mweb - primecal4?? nw??. I've never seen this icon before installing 1P 3.5.3, yet 1P is using it... There's another of these thumbs-up icons two lines down on entry Mweb - primecalr?? nw?

    Hey Chris,

I am sorry you are having this problem. It sounds like either your extension is not working correctly or your settings may need some tweaking.

Please ensure that autosubmit is enabled globally by selecting it from the 1P browser toolbar button. Also, ensure that autosubmit is enabled — set to either "Always" or "If Autosubmit is ON" — for the particular login you are working with.

If you are still having trouble, please try reinstalling the extensions (Preferences > Browsers > "Remove…" then "Install All Extensions").

Re: "thumbs-up" icon, I might ask you the same questions. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> "Is there a description of this?, what it does?, why it appears?, and when it appears?" Please post some more details (and perhaps a screenshot if you are able). I cannot think of what this could possibly be in relation to 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

Also, if you are only having trouble with a specific site (or two), please provide the URL. It may just be a site-specific issue. I know autosubmit should be working for sites like Amazon, Tumblr, Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter, Google, and many more. Those might be some good ones to test.

It also sounds like you have JavaScript disabled if you are having trouble uploading to the forums. Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser(s).

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks!

    Some good questions, khad

If my 1P extension or 1P is not working properly now, but was before, then doesn't that suggest some sort of problem with the new version of 1P 3.5.3?

But let's check my settings to see if they're still fine. Because Fill and Submit is no longer working for some sites although it was before.

    1) Is 1P Login Auto-submit still checked in Preferences?

Yes, 1Password 3.5.3 has not changed this setting after all. See: 1P.1 Login AutoSubmit still checked.png

(I won't bother to post these pngs, but I have them if you wish to see them...)

    2) Is AutoSubmit still on for the sites I'm now having problems?

Yes, still on, no change there. But you have to edit the login to see that setting, would be nicer to have it visible without...

    3) But maybe part of the problem is that 1P had recorded, for example, the 1Password forum login url as:

    http://forum.agilewebsolutions.com/profile.php?sid=148f1855dd022279428239cc1bb2f084

whereas now it seems to be:

    http://forum.agile.ws/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=login

so maybe this will work better now I've replaced the previous url - when and how did it get changed? Yes, Fill and Submit does now work for the 1P forum using Firefox.

    4) Did 3.5.3 change the Browser extensions?

Maybe that is what didn't work... I'll try changing them as you suggest. I'm using latest Firefox 3.6.13 and Safari 5.0.3 in 64 bit mode. Now I've uninstalled them, and then reinstalled them. But I can't see how to tell which version of 1P I'm using from within the browser - should it always be the same version as installed 1P?

    5) The new thumbs-up icon. I don't know what this is, I was hoping you'd tell me. That's why I tried to post a png to the forum. See the pngs which are now on the previous post, the update worked.

    6) A while ago, I had made a note to myself to only login to the 1P forum using Firefox. This suggests that the 1P forum had had some problems with Safari. Have these now been resolved? Or does Safari still give difficulties for your forum. Because if so, that could be part of the problem...

I used Safari to try and post those pngs showing you the new thumbs-up icon. This time I'll use Firefox and I'll also see if I can post them by editing my previous post. Yes, that worked, so could part of it be latest Safari 5.0.3 in 64 bit mode?

    7) One of the sites I'm try to access which 1P 3.5.3 Fill and Submit is not working with is:

    http://www.mweb.co.za/services/myaccount

    8. Is Javascript enabled? good question. Yes it's still enabled for both Firefox and Safari, as shown by:

    1P.2 JavaScript still Enabled.Safari.png

    1P.2 JavaScript still Enabled.Firefox.png

    so...

    Chris,

Manually saving a login can be useful for logins that are either problematic to begin with or were once working but have since stopped. Doing this allows 1Password to refresh everything it "knows" about the page. Login pages often change as websites are updated and this can be a necessary but very useful tip. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> (Also, if the login was saved on a registration or profile page, it can help to "learn" the proper URL for the login page.)

Please try re-saving a login manually like this:

    1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and choose Save Login.

    3. Set the Action field to Create New Login (or to Replace <login-name>, to update an existing Login item).

    4. Click the Save button.

If you are still having trouble, please take a look at our "Website Login Issues" guide:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/login_issues.html

Note especially that editing the login to change the Submit value from "If Autosubmit is ON" to "Never" works on a lot of sites which modify the form before submitting it or are looking for a literal key press or mouse click. This will give you the chance to actually give them what they are looking for by submitting the form yourself rather than allowing 1Password to do it on your behalf.

If you are still having trouble with the extensions, please let me know. Have you tested with the sites I listed above to make sure that it is not a site-specific issue? (These forums should also be a great test since Fill & Submit works great here too — as it does with the vast majority of sites.)

The thumbs up icon is provided by the site itself. Please see this other thread about favicons and apple-touch-icons for further explanation.

Please make sure you are pressing the "Attach This File" button when trying to upload. I know I often select the file(s) by clicking the "Choose File" button but forget to actually attach them. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I've never had a problem with the forum login, and I use Safari almost exclusively. Try manually re-saving the login as described above.

I was also able to properly fill and submit a login at MWEB using the above technique.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.
  • Chris1234
    Chris1234 Junior Member
Khad, Thanks. I've tried your technique to save the login on one site, and that site is now working fine. The login for this 1P forum is also working fine now, so the problem is not all logins.

For uploading the pngs, first Choose file and then Attach worked, so maybe needing two separate steps was the problem. But most other sites have just a one step process, so this second step must be logically unnecessary - it could/should definitely be streamlined ...

#5. Thanks for the explanation on favicons. But I actually find that with 387 different 1Password entries, knowing the item type of each entry is a big problem. I can't see how to see this from the 1P list, although 1P could but does not highlight the item type in the list on the left (hint, hint, suggestion...). And now you're not even giving the 1P icon for an item! I find knowing this very useful, so how do I get 1P to show me the item type of an entry? Please do answer this question.

#7. On this problem MWEB site, see png #2 and my point #7 above, I can't get your technique to work. I have edited the MWEB login to change Submit to Never, as you suggest. I've read your url on Website Login Issues, but that also doesn't help.

But it continues to give me the same list of existing logins in png#2, which does NOT include the one I need. So how do I overwrite the login that I'm trying to use?

I had been wondering if part of the problem might be because MWEB automatically switches to a different website to login for some obscure reason. Yet you say you were able to fill and submit a login at MWEB using your technique. So there's must be something else stopping it working...

You can either get rid of the favicons altogether by going to 1Password > Preferences > Logins pane and clicking the "Remove all previews" button, or just add the item type column to your list view by selecting View > Columns > Type.

In your png #2 above, look in the primary 1P menu right beneath the words "Fill Login." Isn't that the login you are looking for? The one titled "Mweb - primecalr?? nw??" We realize that that's a confusing place for that to be, and we'll be changing that in the future, but I think that might solve the problem for you.
  • Chris1234
    Chris1234 Junior Member
Thanks for your reply, Rob. I've now got rid of the favicons completely, although I had to redo View/Columns/Type this morning, does 1P remember the view options between logins?

But point #7 is still causing a problem.

First, I can see the primary 1P menu you mention and use the logins there regularly, so I don't find that confusing.

As mentioned above, I have three/four different logins for this mweb site. They are listed in that png above, and I'll repost them here. primecal, primecal4, primecalr, and primecal adsl.

    My mweb logins.png

The login that you mention - the one titled "Mweb - primecalr?? nw??" has question marks on it because it has not yet proved itself to work in the long run. It does list the url as signmein.co.za, which is indeed the second site that they switch to, so perhaps this one might work once I've been sent there.

But I don't want this login, I want the first one, the primecal login. And although I went Go and Fill on this login, this second png shows that it has gone to the login site, but then broadly ignored it... see:

1P ignoring Go and Fill on primecal login.png

    So what's up?

ps I've tried to post these two pngs, not large - 90k and 74kb - but your forum refuses! It says have only half a meg "500K global upload quota" and the max single file size is 25 kb. What's the problem? Half a meg is tiny - another issue to resolve...

Yes, it should remember your view settings for you, but each vault has its own settings and the folders collectively have their own setting. That means if you want to set the view options to include the Type column everywhere, you'll have to do it for each vault and once for a folder.

OK. Find the login that you want, and change it's URL to the following:
http://www.signmein.co.za/authentication.aspx
That should solve the issue because you've saved these logins for mweb.co.za, but that page redirects to signmein.co.za when you need to login. In order for Go & Fill to work correctly and for the login to show up in your browser, the saved URL must match the current URL.

I hope that works for you.

    Hi Rob,

It's a normal username and password login. The URL stored in 1Password is already exactly the same as the URL of the actual login page.

The login page contains three places for someone to log in, depending on what kind of user they are. Presumably you'll see that if you visit the page.

    Hi Rob,

    1. Safari 5.0.3 (6533.19.4)

    2. The user name and password are filled in but not automatically submitted

    3. No

    4. You have no question no.4

    5. From Go & Fill, from Fill & Submit from the 1P Safari plugin button and from the 1P app.

    6. If I use Go and Fill then it stalls after filling. The only way it will submit is if I click the login button on the web page itself.

No no no! We're not trying anything of the kind. I just thought you might be okay with using Chrome until the issue is fixed in Safari. I use Choosy for websites that only work correctly in certain browsers. I love Safari myself. I only recently switched my default browser to Chrome so that I could more thoroughly test our 1Password extension for Chrome. Hi, PyratMike, and welcome to the forum!

Currently, Chrome does not support Go & Fill except through it's own extension. That includes Go & Fill from the 1Password app, the dock icon, 1-Click bookmarks, and AllBookmarks. This is an issue we are looking into for the future.
