Feature Request: Global hotkey

I'm coming from KeePass. Wanted something that was cross-platform and would allow sync/editing between desktop and my iPhone.. 1Password looks pretty decent so far but there are a few things I'm missing from KeePass, one is a GLOBAL hotkey, not just activated in my browser. I do a number of logins via SSH and need to grab the password for my accounts. It's a bit of a pain to have to do this by manually finding the app.. It'd also be nice to have the option to have the Ctrl-F search search across all logins/accounts and an option to minimize the app upon a Ctrl-C or other copy operation to get outta my way.

That would definitely be cool. A great example is another program I use on a daily basis: Evernote. CTRL-CMD-F brings up the Evernote search pane at any time. Very handy! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />
  • Thanks for those suggestions!

They may be things that we can look into implementing in future releases, and it helps us to know that you'd find them useful.

a GLOBAL hotkey, not just activated in my browser

Starting with 1.0.3.BETA-164, Auto-Type is invoked when you press Ctrl+\

It's not really global (because it requires our stand-alone app to be activated), but it is a start.

This appears to be a new shortcut for clicking the Auto-Type tool in the 1Password toolbar.

    To use the new shortcut:

Launch an application (browser or non-browser) with a login form for which you've created a Login.

Place the insertion point in the username field of the login form.

Launch or unlock 1Password for Windows.

Select the Login for the application you launched in step 1.

Press Ctrl+\ (or click the Auto-Type tool).
1Password should fill in the username and password fields; then you can submit the form.

This use of the familiar Ctrl+\ shortcut differs from its use in your browser, in that you need to select the Login in 1Password before pressing Ctrl+\ (rather than after pressing Ctrl+\, as is the case in your browser).

Another important difference is that changing the Login keyboard shortcut option (on the Logins tab of 1Password preferences) affects only the shortcut you use in your browser; it does not affect this new use of Ctrl+\ within 1Password itself.
  • After a bit of experimentation and feedback, we've decided not to release the Ctrl+\ shortcut that was tested in the latest beta build.

It's simple enough just to click the Auto-Type tool in the 1Password tool bar.

    Thanks for understanding!
