Feature Request: Beyond the Browser
<div class="IPBDescription">Provide at least some support for non-browser apps</div>I love 1Password (Mac(s) and iPhone, sync via DropBox). I'd like to love it more: I wish it were more usable for apps other than browsers.
Surely this is a FAQ (though I searched the FAQ document and this forum and couldn't find it).
I realize I can switch to (or launch) the 1P app, find the appropriate password, copy, switch back to the original app, and paste. But that's really rather cumbersome! On the other hand, I realize that the deep integration 1P provides for browsers is undoubtedly a lot of work already, on the one hand already involving chasing a lot of rapidly moving targets, and on the other hand in the end facilitated by the simplicity that at root they're all HTML. Extending beyond the browser would mean even more targets to chase, and targets even less similar -- or even, cooperative! I get all that. But still, some improvement might be possible, and reasonable.
For example: suppose the 1P/Mac menu bar thing were always there, not just when there's a browser in front. But when the front window is not a browser, the various "Fill" or or "Fill & Submit" items would be only "Paste," or perhaps even only "Copy". That way, the cool navigation tools and models already available in 1P would be leveraged, but the actual interaction with the various front apps would be minimized or eliminated.

Hello, jrep, and welcome to the forums!
This is one of our top feature requests, and I agree and would like to see it happen, too. Unfortunately, we are limited to 24 hours per day, though Roustem has tried many times to get around that restriction. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> This is probably something we'll investigate for a future release, but I can't guarantee a timeframe for it to be implemented. I know it would be hard to be more vague, but we've got so many ideas, we can't do them all now.
Thanks for the feedback!Flag 0 -
OS X at least has some good accessibility support built in, and I would imagine that software that is built to support these features could actually help facilitate some of this functionality. I think the main concern would be security, before an implementation of this would even be attempted. Pretty exciting to think about, actually. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0

Hello. I'm just adding an "amen" to this request. 1Password is brilliant and one of the few apps I've used since it's beginning and immediately install on every new computer. Too many software companies are more interested in quantity than quality. I'm a fan of the menubar for System wide apps (dock is too confusing) and system wide access would be great.Flag 0
