Password issue with Schwab.com

For some reason when I'm trying to sign into schwab.com (using Chrome), it keeps telling me that I need to enter a password. It shows the password being entered in the box, but then I get the error message.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks!

  • In just trying it again, it looks like my username is being entered twice, once under the username field and again in the "Quick Quote" box at the bottom of the page.

I'm thinking that's causing the issue. Just need to figure out how to fix it.

Hi, Rhiec, and welcome to the forums!

We've noted schwab.com as a web form that 1Password has trouble submitting in Chrome. Thanks for the report!
  • I played around with it a little more...if I have auto-submit on, the password does not get filled in. If I take autosubmit off, the password gets filled in and then I can click submit myself and it works fine.

Yes, I'm sorry I didn't give you the workaround. That is how to deal with most forms where auto-submit fails for some reason. Note that you can turn auto-submit off for one item at a time by editing the item and changing the Submit value at the bottom to "Never".

I never had trouble having 1P work with Schwab in Safari until a couple weeks ago. Go to Schwab main home page. !P submits the user name but is blocked from submitting the password. Login fails and then Schwab takes you to an alternate login page, where 1P works fine. (The password box has a ghosted word 'password' in it, which did not appear before the problem began. Not sure if that's related to the problem or not.)

I'm sorry that you're having this problem, eveningclouds. Please try saving the login manually on the page to which you are redirected. You will need to do this in Safari or Firefox as Chrome does not yet support manually saving a login:

    1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and choose Save Login.

    3. Set the Action field to Create New Login (or to Replace <login-name>, to update an existing Login item).

    4. Click the Save button.

Manually saving a login can be useful for logins that are either problematic to begin with or were once working but have since stopped. Doing this allows 1Password to refresh everything it "knows" about the page. Login pages often change as websites are updated and this can be a necessary but very useful tip. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

If you are still having trouble, please take a look at our "Website Login Issues" guide. Note especially that — as mentioned above — editing the login to change the Submit value from "If Autosubmit is ON" to "Never" works on a lot of sites which modify the form before submitting it or are looking for a literal key press or mouse click. This will give you the chance to actually give them what they are looking for by submitting the form yourself rather than allowing 1Password to do it on your behalf.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!
  • I have had problems on Schwab too, since around the same time, and I think it is because they updated the website around that time. I was noticing that the website contains frames, and if you view the portion of the website in the frame separately, 1 Password has no trouble submitting. This leads me to my question. Is there a known problem with submitting information into fields when they are in a frame?

    Thanks!
  • I had this problem with Safari 5.1. Since I am not on 10.7 yet, I was able to go back to 5.0.5 and everything still works correctly.

In S5.1, copy and paste would work.

I'm sorry for the trouble here. It looks like there is an issue with autosubmit on that page. The new Safari 5.1 extension does not yet honor a Submit value of "Never" for individual logins (which would be the normal course of action), but you can disable autosubmit globally in 1Password's preferences until we can get that working.

In my testing disabling autosubmit worked well. We are working to resolve this as quickly as we can. Thanks for reporting this!

Once we get the Submit value working in the new Safari 5.1 extension, you can keep autosubmit enabled globally but just disable it for your Contitental Login item.

Of course, we are working to improve autosubmit on this and other sites so that no workaround is needed. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
