Event 1Password Uses to enter passwords in input field

Hey there,

I'm a UI developer working on a large financial site where some of our users are using 1Password - for both Macintosh and PC. We're currently experiencing the problem on the Macintosh.

Our UI design called for the field descriptions, like "User Name" and "Password" to be inside the actual input fields where the user enter them. Thus, on the password field, when the user types into the field, the password input=text field is hidden and the password input=password field is shown. This allows the user to first see the label, but when they start entering the password, the password is obscured.

My problem is that 1Password enters the password into the field, thus there's no keypress so the password is exposed in text. I have to determine an event to listen for so I can do the field swap out.

I sent Tech Support an email regarding this issue. There is no phone number on the site, so I can't call anyone. This is a very high priority so I need to know what event to trap for that 1Password places the password into the field.

Thank you

Donna Z.

    Hello, Donna.

Thanks for asking about this. I've replied to the email you sent us.
  • Thanks...but it didn't help. Is there a way I can talk to your tech support? I'm trying to see how you're altering the password field to place the password in there.

Right now, we have a input text that gets swapped out to input password: stupid ux design to place the field name inside the input box. This swap out happens when the user either clicks on the field or on a key event.

I can trap in the code to see if one of your javascript functions exist - so I know the 1Password is loaded. Then, when a person does something to get their username/password, I can either time the password field for a copy change or if there is an event that happens (like an onchange).

So, if someone can get to me, that would be great. I sent emails again as I have to resolve this.

    Donna,

The forums are monitored by our customers, advocates, "Tech Support" (call us what you want: we'll respond) and the developers. Rob is definitely a part of Agile's customer care team so when he speaks, well, it's good stuff! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Your question can only be answered by one of the Chrome developers. I'll let them know that you're wanting 'inside' information about how to detect and/or respond when 1Password is filling your site's form. If the web site is already online to the public, knowing the URL would help us to do our own testing as well. If you'd rather not share that with the world then please send it to us in an e-mail (you know our address).

And a belated welcome to the forums, as well!
