Feature Suggestion

Most of the time, I use 1password directly from within the browser. I rarely open the actual application. The main exception to this is when I need to login to a site that uses flash or some other method that prevents 1password from automatically entering the login information. In this case, I open the 1password app, click on the username/password and paste into the browser.

What I would love is if 1password had the capability of displaying a drop down sheet (I forget the mac programming term for this) in the browser that contained the username/password that could be clicked on to copy and paste into the browser.

  • Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the post! Our new Chrome extension actually has this feature already, if you click the arrow next to a login item from within the Chrome extension's window you'll see your login credentials that can be copied and pasted into a Flash login, for example.

I know this may not help if you're using Safari or Firefox, though you can hold down the Shift key when you click the 1P icon to get the 'Edit' option for a Login and copy and paste the details that way, but in the future we do plan to bring a lot of the functionality of the Chrome extension to our other browser extensions.

We are also looking into some other options to handle logins that can't normally be filled with 1Password, and although I can't give a timeframe for when these may be available, I can say that we want to make 1Password the best app it can possibly be, regardless of how the login is handled.

    Hope that helps,

Stu, with a lot of your clients probably being developers, we hate to use the mouse (icky <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />. I rarely touch it and use shortcut keys for almost everything I can. Unfortunately here's my workflow for populating a webpage that isn't capable of autofill (or if I need to use a username or password someplace like Terminal).

    1. I start off in the app (let's say Terminal)

    2. Command-Spacebar (Spotlight)

    3. Type: 1pass<enter> (Launches 1Password)

    4. Type my Master Password

    5. Cursor is already in the find box so I can just type the login I'm looking for.

    6. Move my hand to the mouse to click the username

    7. Command-Tab to get back to Terminal

    8. Command-V to paste

    9. Command-Tab to get back to 1Password

    10. Move my hand to the mouse to click the password

    11. Command-Tab to get back to Terminal

    12. Command-V to paste

All I'd be suggesting is possibly adding two shortcut keys for "Copy Username" and "Copy Password" that would work on whatever the currently focused item is. And remember, keep those keyboard shortcuts coming! The one for "Find" was very welcome!

    Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff. We will consider this in a future release.

In the meantime, you might try selecting the item in 1Password and then:

⌘E to edit

⇥ to username field

⌘C to copy

⌘⇥ to switch applications

⌘V to paste

⇥ to password field

⌘C to copy

⌘⇥ to switch applications

⌘V to paste
Not as simple as the feature you are requesting but makes zero use of the mouse. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Also consider Rob's initial suggestion of holding down the Shift key when selecting the item in the 1P browser toolbar menu to have immediate access to the login information in that context. (Obviously not if you are in Terminal.)

    I hope that helps.
