<div class="IPBDescription">Won't stay put</div>I have a related problem so I hope it helps to post it here. I can see the 1Password icon in my toolbar but every time I restart Safari, the icon moves to a different position than where I originally placed it.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums, winofigments. I'm sorry that you are having this problem. At the moment, we are not using a "new style" Safari 5 extension, so the behavior is a bit less controlled. The 1P browser toolbar button should always be to the far left in the toolbar (just to the right of the back and forward buttons) if it is installed and working correctly. Once we roll out a "new style" Safari 5 extension it will behave as expected.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer right now.
  • Hi...thanks for the update. I've been waiting on this for quite some time. Luckily for me it only occurs with restarting my computer. It would definitely drive me up the wall if it happened with every browser restart.

Any idea on when you're going to be rolling out the "new style" extensions? I shut down every night, and move the 1P button to its "correct" position every morning. Sort of a ritual at this point...but still a pain.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately, I do not have a time frame for a specific release. We try not to pre-announce upcoming products or their updates since there are so many factors — many beyond our control — which affect ship dates.

This is definitely in the works, though.
  • Hi,

I've just landed on the forums looking for a solution to this problem. One point worth noting is that my icon moves every time I quit safari (not reboot) and it moves to the far right (right of the search box).

    Looking forwards to the solution.

    Cheers,

    Greg

    Hi guys,

See if this’ll work for your 1Password button in Safari. Open Terminal.app which is found in your /Applications/Utilities folder, copy and paste the following command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari ws.agile.1Password.toolbarButtonIndex 1
Also, try to reset your folder permissions by doing the following:

Quit Safari

Open 1Password

Click Help > Troubleshooting > Reset Folder Permissions

For good measure, restart your Mac.

Run Safari
Please let me know how it turns out.
  • I discovered a bit more detail about the moving of the icon in Safari. On mine, I have the left/right arrows on the far left, then Evernote, then Scissors icon that opens portions of a page in the Dashboard. I move the 1Password icon to the second position (just to the right of the left/right arrows), and quit. On the next launch, the 1Password icon has moved 1 position to the right (right of Evernote). Quit and relaunch again and it moves one more position. Quit and relaunch again and this time it moves to the far right edge of the page (right of the google search). So it moves 1 position for each quit and relaunch.

I tried the Terminal command that MikeT mentioned but it didn't solve it. I haven't yet tried resetting folder permissions.

Sorry, but resetting folder permissions did not solve the moving icon problem in Safari 5.0.3

I would like to confirm that I have the problem as well "the 1P browser toolbar button moves in Safari and stays mostly on the right of the google search" and have tried the following which didn't fix the problem:

    -defaults write com.apple.Safari ws.agile.1Password.toolbarButtonIndex 1

    - reset folder permission

    I am running Safari 5.0.3 (6533.19.4) on a MacBook 13" 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OS X 10.6

It sounds like you might have Evernote installed. Unfortunately, an old version of the Evernote Safari extension didn't play nice with any toolbar customizations the user has made, which of course includes 1Password. Please see this thread and this post in particular for more information. We've reached out to the Evernote team to supply code to get this working and they made some progress in a recent update.

Please try upgrading to the latest version of Evernote and see if that helps. If not, try removing the Evernote clipper extension and see if that helps. Assuming it does, you can achieve much of the Evernote clipper's functionality by simply dragging the URL from the address bar to the Evernote icon in the Dock. Select the URL and click and hold for a short delay before dragging to have the text drag. Then, drop the URL on the Evernote icon in the Dock to clip the page. With this in place, many users have found they do not need to use the Evernote clipper in Safari at all.

After removing Evernote, restart Safari and you should be able to get the 1Password icon to stay on the toolbar. Alternatively, if you want to keep the Evernote icon, you can access all of 1Password's functionality from the context menu in the browser (ctrl-click on the webpage).

Yes, removing the Evernote icon solves the moving 1Password icon problem (and I even found that I needed an update for Evernote but it didn't help). I'll leave it out for now because I'm so used to the 1Password icon being on the left side and use it more than Evernote. But I hope you can get those folks to work out the kinks with yours.

I hope someone can help with this small problem. 1Password is working great, however, everytime I quit Safari and then restart it moves the icon for 1P to the far right upper part of the Safari window (as you look at it). Usually it stays right next to the bookmark icon. Now it moves with every restart. Anyone have any idea how to make the icon stay where I put it? I am running 1P v. 3.6.0.BETA-2 (build 30902), Safari 5.0.4 and OSX 10.6.6. Thanks for any help!!!!

So...AWS is usually right on top of fixing bugs. This has been going on for quite some time. Any hope for a coming release?

    Hey bpwhistler,

    Thanks for the kind words!

As I mentioned above, this will require a "new-style" Safari 5 extension. The kind you can get at Apple's Safari Extensions Gallery.

This means a complete rewrite of the current code which takes time. I do not have anything to announce right now, but this is the way of the future. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I remember the comment on the new extension. I think AWS has spoiled its users through the years by the REGULAR updates you provide. With that in mind...I guess I am being a bit more demanding than I would of other developers. Thanks for the response one way or another though.

    Cheers.
  • Being demanding is great, bpwhistler, it's how we get an idea of what our users want and need to see from 1Password.

As Khad mentioned, creating a brand new Safari 5 extension may take some time, but it will have some huge advantages. For example, if you've used our Chrome extension at all you'll noticed that in a lot of cases form-filling has been greatly improved, that's because it uses our new 'Brain' engine which is what we'll be using in all our extensions going forward.

Please do watch this space, as they say, we're very excited about the future of our Safari extension and can't wait to unleash it to the world.

Went through this process several times. No luck. Every time I restart my computer, the 1P button moves to the right.

    Thanks for the try though.

Still waiting for the next version of 1P that uses the new Safari extension. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I DO have another Tasty Apps program however... WebSnapper
  • bpwhistler
    bpwhistler Member
Well...there you have it. I removed the WebSnapper toolbar icon, restarted Safari, moved the 1P icon to "where it belongs" and then restarted Safari and then rebooted my laptop as well. The 1P icon stayed put. I use the WebSnapper icon frequently, but not as frequently as the 1P icon, so I'll leave it this way. Hopefully the next iteration of 1P will alleviate this behavior! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

  • Evenote has a similar problem where it's "Elephant toolbar button" moves in Safari.

It was confirmed in Console and it said "Safari[269] EVERNOTE: Did not find Elephant in Safari toolbar items".

Well, after checking this specific message in Google, someone found a solution to his software and proposed a fix for it.

Please check the following link for fixing the problem with "Evernote Elephant toolbar button" being gone or moving to a wrong place" in Safari.

    Hello George,

Thanks for following up with this thread.

The solution is to use a "new style" Safari 5 extension (via the documented APIs) for which work has already begun. That will resolve the issue and once and for all. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

  • So when is the "new style" Safari 5 extension going to be available ? lol

Unfortunately, I do not have a time frame and we do not announce release dates. It will be ready when it is ready.
