Using dropbox as data location - data not updated

I have Dropbox installed on my Droid and use Dropbox on my Mac and Windows systems. I added a new login on my Windows system and it has updated (I see it on my Mac). However, it hasn't updated on my Droid. I had previously set my data file location on the Droid to be Dropbox; but the new login information is not on my Droid. Its now been 8 hours and the information is still not on my Droid.

Should it be automatically updating? If I check, on my Droid, the option of where to store the data file is cleared, neither option is selected.

Do I have to click on sync anytime a change is made?

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi Mike,

First of all, thank you for your interest in 1Password for Android.

1Password does syncing on Android phone differently than on iOS.There is no

automatic synchronization on the application start-up.

Syncing is done on demand only when you select Menu option Sync.

Once data on your phone is synchronized with your computer, you will also

need to confirm your master password before you can see updates.

In future application releases we may also introduce automatic syncing on

Android phone at certain intervals or on application startup, so please stay

    tuned for the updates.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Gene

  • Just saw the reply (thought I would get an email when someone replied).

So, setting the system to use drop box only tells where to sync from when I hit sync then? Compared to how everything else uses Dropbox (Mac, Windows, etc) that does seem fairly weak.

    Hi Mike,

Automatic syncing will definitely be introduced in the stand -alone version of the application.

I don't think using menu option for syncing is a big deal though.

There are certain issues with stability of the Dropbox framework 1Password for Android is using internally for the Dropbox server access.

Until the new version of the framework is released and tested thoroughly, I won't feel comfortable with automatic updates going in the background.

I want to show sync log to the user every time to make sure it went correctly.

    Regards,

    Gene

  • Where is "menu option synch" you mentioned on your 2/9 post, for manually synching 1P Android with DropBox? I've got all my initial data working fine but can't figure out how to update.

    Thanks!

    Hi Greg,

Once you login into the application with your master password, please popup menu bar (click menu button on the phone).

You will see several menu options underneath: help, lock, sync, etc. Choose sync option, click on it and your phone will start

contacting Dropbox server and synchronizing 1Password for Android with your 1Password data file stored inside of it.

Notice that authentication will be done by using user-specific access keys returned to the phone by Dropbox server

when you set up the application, no need to enter your username/password again.

Please let me know if you need more info.

    Regards,

    Gene

  • Hi Gene,

I do not have a sync option when I tap the menu button on my Android phone. Is there an update to the android app that I have missed?. I am using 1.0 beta, 6.6.4. Great app, I use it regularly.

    Thank You,

    DaveS

    Hi Dave,

Please goto Menu->Preferences->Update Data File Location and choose "Use Dropbox to Synchronize Data" instead of "Use Data File Locally".

Once you provided your valid Dropbox username and password, you will be able to login and see Sync Menu option.

Please let me know if you found the information helpful.

    Thank you and best regards,

This thread helped me solve my problem. Thank YOU.....

However, I can see where others might be confused about the 'menu button' vs. the 'popup menu bar'. I messed around with this for a half hour until I saw what Agile was saying (not blaming them...probably my ignorance). On my phone at least, the (application's 3-dot popup menu bar showed up on the BOTTOM of my screen next to my Recent aps symbol...rather than near the top where (it seems) most other aps have it. Once I clicked the right place...it was obvious...I simply resynched.

    Bottom Line:

I Just wasn't finding the right button to click!

-There appears to be no regular sync option available (at least for my phone) ...

-Under the PHONES SYNCH settings...Dropbox shows...but it's greyed out and unable to manual sych.

I hope this helps someone? I just wanted to post it to help save someone some frustration. And wanted to help support 1P...this ap saved my life!!! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks for the feedback, Mark! I'm glad things are working well. We're improving this in the new version, so that should help when it is released. (Sorry, I don't have a time frame.)

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. We are always here to help!
