can't log into 1password pro 1st time

Hi Folks,

I've been using 1Password on my Macs and iPad with dropbox uneventfully. Just got my new iPhone where 1password pro was installed automatically via initial iTunes synch.

When I open 1password on my iPhone, however, it opens directly to a 4-digit sign-on page. When I enter my device 4-digit code, I get a "wrong password" error. I created a 4 digit code in my iPhone's dropbox app, but that won't work either.

I can't get to any other page with setup links. What should I do?

Thanks, Greg

  • I just wanted to add that I'm in a similar sort of situation, and after a few searches, I wasn't able to figure out if there was a published workaround.

(In my case, I had set up dropbox sync between my Mac and my iPad, and just recently got an iPhone. So there was never any 4-digit key ever set up on the phone.)

I don't want to buy the application again unless I have to.

That is precisely my situation, Tristan.

Welcome to the forums, folks. I'm sorry that you're having this problem.

If you cannot remember the unlock code, you will need to delete the 1Password app from your device and start over. There are a few ways to retrieve your data after the reset or reinstall:

    * If you've been using Dropbox to sync your data with 1Password for Mac or Windows, just set up Dropbox sync'ing again in the reinstalled app, and your data will start syncing to your iPad automatically. Please see this guide for instructions on how to set this up if you need any assistance:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html

    * If you've previously synced your 1Password data with 1Password for Mac, you can easily restore your data during the next Wi-Fi sync:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/sync_to_iphone.html

    * If you've used the built-in "backup and restore" feature to save a backup copy of your 1Password data, you can use it again to restore that saved backup file. You can read more about our backup and restore option here:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password_touch/backup.html

Please note that you don't have to repurchase 1Password in order to reinstall the app, providing you're still using the same iTunes account that you used to purchase the app originally, then you will be able to download the current version for free. Unfortunately, it won't look like it's free until you choose to "buy" it and enter your password. You don't have to take our word for it, though. Here is Apple's official support document:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519

Another thing you can do to make sure that you won't have to pay for the app again is to try adding it to your Wish List in iTunes. If you already own the app, iTunes will tell you that you have already purchased the item and that you cannot add it to your Wish List.

Please let me know how it turns out.

But I never created a 4-digit unlock code!!!!
  • Ah, was not aware that you can reinstall this application from the App store. (There's no indication of it until you actually start downloading the app, you just see a big "Buy" button.) It might help to indicate this in a FAQ somewhere, because it's really not-obvious, and, if you're like me and you just bought a new application which just synced itself, it sure looks like your application is broken (even though it isn't).

Deleting and re-installing the app from the app store (not syncing) worked for me. I was then able to set up the password.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the update, Tristan! I am glad everything is working well for you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Greg, when you run 1Password for iPhone (or 1Password Pro on your iPhone) for the first time, you are required to set up a 4-digit unlock code. There is not really a way around this, so I am not sure what could have happened.

How did things end up when you reinstalled? I would love to get this resolved for you if you are still having trouble. Please let me know.

I updated my Mac 1P to the new vers that just came out, deleted Pro from iPhone, and synched to reinstall. This time it worked.

I was reminded of how much I depend on your fine program during the interim.

    Thanks for caring,

    Greg

Tell me about it! I can't imagine being without my 1Password data. It would be like losing half of my mind. It certainly motivates me when supporting 1Password since I can completely empathize with the feelings of panic. Dropbox syncing is the best way to provide yourself not only automatic background syncing but a safety net of online, offsite backup.

I am relieved to know that you have found inner peace again. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />
  • I think I'm in a similar situation. I just posted a new topic about being locked out of a probably (see details) new install because the unlock page came up without any known 4 digit code having been set! Will try to uninstall and reload.
