Error message - data lost
After 2 years of using 1Password 3 without any problems, I now have this error message when I try to enter my master password:
Exception: The encryption keys file does not exist at "..." (in my dropbox folder).
Also, password data has disappeared from the Safari toolbar item menu.
My keychain was saved in dropbox and appear to still be there where I left it.
Any ideas?

First, you may want to edit your post to remove your Dropbox username for privacy.
If your Dropbox data appears to be intact, I would recommend backing it up before doing anything else.
Try opening 1Password Preferences > General: Data File and use "Choose Another..." to ensure that 1Password knows where to find your keychain data.
If that works, at this point I would try to investigate if there was some type of software crash or data corruption that caused this to happen in the first place. Scary... <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, mrcottonsox. I'm sorry that you're having this problem.
Please try rebuilding your data file in 1Password on your Mac (Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File…).
If that doesn't do the trick, try changing your master password. You can change it back immediately, but this will regenerate the 1password.keys file.
You could also try restoring from a backup within 1Password on your Mac (File > Restore Data File from Backup…). The most recent backup will be listed at the top and automatically selected. Click the "Restore Backup…" button to proceed.
I hope that helps. Please let me know!Flag 0 -
Thanks, brenty, for pointing out my basic security lapse. Much appreciated.
Thanks, Khad, for listing several possible fixes. I reverted to an older backup, and it seems fine now. Before that, it wouldn't let me change the master password or rebuild the data file.Flag 0 -
Thanks for updating the thread. I am always very glad that 1Password includes an automatic backup function that is enabled by default. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
What a relief to know that you are back up and running! I know that can be scary.Flag 0
