Ctrl-\ keeps prompting for new Keychain

Hi,

I am running Windows 7 in a VirtualBox environment on my iMac, and have just installed 1Password for Windows (been using Mac version for years). I pointed the keychain at my Mac Dropbox folder, which works when running the full application. I can add and edit the data in the keychain just fine.

However, when I press Ctrl-\ for a password, it prompts for a new keychain or existing one. It won't let me point to the mapped drive for the keychain when I choose existing keychain. If the main app is open, nothing opens up, but the 1Password app flashes in the taskbar, but nothing else happens, and if I switch to the app, there is nothing out of the ordinary displayed there either - just the password list or whatever the last screen was I had open.

I was running this in a Parallels virtual machine, and it worked fine. I am trying to avoid creating another dropbox copy in the virtual machine if at all possible.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Graeme

Sounds like the keychain is not available when you press Ctrl+\

Maybe your web browser is running under a different user token? Or lower privileges maybe?

I am an admin on my machine, and i have tried firing up IE 'normally' and 'as administrator'. It seems to work if I don't need the admin option, but takes about 24 seconds to respond to the Ctrl-\ keystroke, which seems an inordinately long time?

Have you tried Mozilla Firefox? Is it having the same problem?

Thank you for your quick responses Stefan.

I haven't tried Firefox to date, but that's only because the web sites I have to access are IE only.... I usually use Firefox or Chrome, but the main reason I am using Windows instead is because of the IE requirement <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I have now installed Firefox for testing this issue. The startup time of the extension is 9 seconds instead of 24, so still slow, but much faster than IE. The problem when running the app as administrator still happens however, so I get the prompt for a new keychain, and can't point to the existing one.

    Graeme, welcome to the forum!

We strongly discourage (and do not support) using the 1Password data folder (a.k.a. keychain) in a "shared" folder on your Mac. The supported method of sharing data between your Mac and a Windows virtual machine running on your Mac is to use Dropbox in both operating systems.

Using Dropbox provides a multiple-revision backup of your 1Password data (already encrypted locally, and encrypted still further on your private, password-protected Dropbox web site). It also manages access to your 1Password data, preventing loss and corruption that can occur when both OS X and Windows try to write to the same files.

Please install Dropbox in your Windows virtual machines as described in the following documents.

Rats. I was hoping that wasn't going to be your response as I was trying to avoid having 2 copies of my Dropbox on the same machine, and also to keep the size of the Virtual machine down.

Oh well, it is what it is. I have now installed Dropbox for Windows as well and only syncing my 1Password keychain, and it seems to work fine, but the startup is still slow for the full app. The startup time when in the browser is now quicker, but still a delay while it opens the keychain it seems. It also works with the "Run as Administrator" as it doesn't need a network drive.

Thank you for your help guys! Awesomeness in the form of 1Password and Agile continues!
