Recommended iOS Master Password

I have searched the forums for a similar topic but did not find anyt relevant results. So, I apologize if this is a repeat question (or a dumb one as well).

I was reading through some different topics about Dropbox syncing, master password storage in iOS, and the interaction between multiple devices (iOS, Mac, PC) and had a question. What is the recommended master password setting for each device? Since the application is called 1Password, I had assumed that I should use the same master password for my iPhone, iPad, iMac, and work PC. Is this an accurate assumption? If not, why would that not be the case exactly?

If my assumption is wrong, can you update my devices to say 4Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks in advance for the help.

You can use the exact same password if you wish, please note that the password is not synced to the iOS device. (As you noticed) This allows those who wish for a slightly easier password to type on the iOS device to use one. Some choose to use an entirely different one altogether.

This custom password is only for the devices any OS using the 1password.agilekeychain ex Windows app and Mac app will use the same password assuming you are using the same keychain. Obviously if you have different keychains then there may well be different passwords there as well.

My master password is so awesome, I only need the one. Shhh. Don't tell the guys wearing the tin foil hats over in the corner. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Thanks for the responses. I would expect this to be the primary behavior for most users, but wasn't sure after reading this post. It is a nice option to have if you want to simplify typing on the iOS keyboard. But, I will stick with my super, awesome strong 1password for all apps.

Hi Fooligan, it is really up to you.

For me, I’m more paranoid than most people and I use the same strong 8+ characters for both my iOS devices but it is not the same as the 12+ characters for the master password on my Mac/Windows.

For the extreme, you would use 12+ characters and make it different for each device. Pick the one that fits you, everybody have their own mindset about their security and its tradeoff. You can go the easy way and pick the same master password for everything. The hardest way is to three different master passwords, all strong on its own. The marriage is to have one master password per device type and in this case, one strong master password for all of your mobile devices and one for your computers.
