Mac to Windows sync/licence implications
in Mac
Hi,
firstly im trying out 1password on my mac (work machine) following the recommendation from a friend and i have to say i love, its simple to use and it works.
now to the questions <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />, i have taken a look round the FAQ's, documentation and forums, but havent found anything that answers me so far so its time to ask.
1 - im currently running the free 30 day trial and looking to purchase it shortly, however im currently running it on a mac and ive been advised by the office that ill be moving to a windows machine within the next few months, so if i buy a licence for 1password, does it cover 1 active installation on any supported OS or is it only covered on the OS that its purchased for?
2 - if the licence covers all OS's can the config file be moved between MAC and Windows 1password editions? I assume that using dropbox or something similar would cover that and import/export options?
Again, the applicaition is very good and does what it says, however it would be nice if there was some more localisation as it appears to be very US oriented such as bank details and social security details, there are several key differences between the UK and US in this regard.
regards
Mark

Hi Mark,
The licenses are currently seperate. You can check out the pricing here https://agilewebsolutions.com/store
You may also send an email to support and see if they can help in anyway. Support@agile.ws
Sorry about you loosing your Mac hey man tell them you can run Win via bootcamp or a VM. I am assuming that they own the Mac. With the current pricing scheme a Mac and Win would cost you @ $60.
If they let you keep the Mac buying a Mac version @ $40 plus a VM license @ $70 plus if you search around you can find coupons for discounts. Anyway Im babling, I just hate to see anyone have to give up a perfectly good Mac.
You could also use the Free VM virtualbox. Tho I have never tried it. A few here dont prefer it. But I mention it as an option.
So Sorry on the Mac, can you tell that I am partial to a Mac. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

Hi Mark!
First of all, thanks for giving 1Password a try, it's great to hear you're enjoying it so far <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

As Tommy correctly stated, the Mac and Windows versions of 1Password are licensed separately, however our licensing policy is a little different than the typical license because we license per-person / per-platform rather than just per-computer / per-platform. If you take a look at our online store over at https://agilewebsolutions.com/store you'll find 3 'versions' of 1Password available as such:
1Password for Mac - $39.95 (Single User) / $69.95 (Family license)
1Password for Windows - $29.95 (Single User) / $49.95 (Family license) - this is currently on sale
1Password for Mac + Windows Bundle - $59.95 (Single User) / $99.95 (Family license)
What we've tried to do is make it possible for everyone to get the best deal, some users will never need a Windows license, or a Mac license, so why make them pay for it? Other users, particularly those who use Mac at home and Windows at work, will get the best value from the Bundle, as it does save money compared with buying both Mac and Windows licenses separately.
Our definition of a Single User license, as I mentioned above, is one human being, or highly evolved experimental monkey just to show we're not speciesist, using 1Password on as many Macs, PCs or combination of both depending on the license, as they need to use. The Family license covers up to 5 family members living in the same household, and again on as many computers as they own, depending on the license.

You assume correctly, Dropbox is our recommended sync solution for keeping your 1Password data in sync between the different versions of 1Password, including our iOS mobile applications and the Beta versions of our Android and Windows Phone 7 'reader' apps.
The way this works is fairly simple, you setup a data file within 1Password for Mac or Windows and place this in your Dropbox folder, then it's a case of telling the other installations of 1Password to use this data file, which can often be detected automatically. Here's our guides on setting up Dropbox syncing:
http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/configure_dropbox_on_mac.html (Mac)
http://help.agile.ws/1Password_Windows/tutorials.html#setting_up_dropbox_sync (Windows)

I couldn't agree more, I'm from the UK myself and so I can't really store my Barclays, who I have to say have fantastic online banking, account details or my National Insurance number within 1Password. The good news is that this is something we're working on, and we're by no means trying to be US centric - Dave and Roustem are based in Canada for a start.
The plan is to make it possible for you to customise the existing templates within 1Password as well as allowing you to create your own new ones, we're really excited about this but I don't have a timeframe I can give you for when it will be available as there's quite a bit of work to be done to make sure that everything works as it should, the last thing we want is for any data to get lost by using custom templates.
I hope that gives you some more information, and as Tommy said, I hope you get to keep your Mac, I use Windows 7 in a VM without any major... well OK my VM is broken at the moment but that's a long story, but usually it works great and I can always 'Boot Camp' the Mac too so I can run Windows natively.Flag 0 -
Tommy, Stu,
thanks for the info, think ill have to go get me a bundle, and ive also pass teh app details on to one of the other guys in the office as well that has (but will be lossing his mac soon too), i have already advised infernal systems (as i like to call them) that they will have to take my mac from my cold dead hands, ill not give it up without a fight and im willing to get physical if i have too <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
From what i can hear it looks like i might be able to buy the mac off them for some fee to be confirmed, but i might just go and get a new one as this is old and the new unibody macbookpro's are loverly <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
If you ever need any assistance with testing on the uk customisations then please let me know.
one las thing that i would like to know regarding the application (and i havent looked into it yet) does it support entering usernames and passwords and domains on RDP sessions?Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, Endo129! I'm sorry you have not heard back from anyone yet. I just searched our entire email support system and could not find a message from you. I only searched for the email address you used to sign up for the forums since it was all I had to go on, so please let me know if you used a different address to contact us via email. We generally reply in less than 24 hours, so if you do not hear back from us within that time, it is very likely that we never received your message. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />
That being said, I am happy to help you here. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />
I was able to find your 1Password Mac + Windows Bundle Family License in our system. Please ensure that you are using the very latest version of 1Password (3.5.7 at the moment) as earlier versions will not accept the Bundle licenses.
Please let me know how it turns out. Thanks!Flag 0 -

Technically, support for bundle licenses was added in 3.5.2, but using an older version is the main cause of bundle license issues in 1Password for Mac. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />Flag 0
