1P Not Automatically Saving Passwords
Recently, I've noticed that 1P doesn't always prompt to save new passwords. This becomes a problem when I use the generator to create a tough password since once the form is submitted, if it has captured the login, I won't know the new password. I've checked preferences and confirmed the first three checkboxes are checked under Login > Login Options. I'm on build 3.5.7
Example: Trying with both Chrome and Safari today, I set up a new account at http://stitcher.com/. 1P didn't attempt to save the password when I first created the account or when loggin it with the new information. I needed to manually create the login information in 1P. Perhaps related, when clicking the link to the site in 1P, the login page for stitcher.com did open but the login information was not prefilled and submitted. Furthermore, I was able to click the 1P icon to fill the information so it recognized I was on the right screen.
Interestingly enough, the entry of the login information wasn't successful. It could be possible that 1P is incorrectly guessing on the submit button since there are two on the login screen: one for existing accounts and one for new accounts. Since I manually created the login info in 1P, 1P doesn't know which one to use (?). Next question would be how do I indicate the correct button when 1P isn't automatically sensing what I'm pressing.
Thanks much.

Hey John,
Thanks for taking the time to post this.
I was not able to reproduce your results exactly. 1Password did not prompt me to autosave the login in Safari but did prompt me to autosave in Chrome at this URL:
http://stitcher.com/sign_in.php
It looks like we have this licked in our Chrome extension which is using our very latest form filling code, so, while I don't have a time frame for a specific release, it will eventually be ported back to the Safari extension as well.
Autosubmit is likely causing trouble since, as you mention, there are two forms on the same page (which also happen to use the same field names in the page's source code <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' /> ). Try editing the login to change the Submit value from "If Autosubmit is ON" to "Never." This will allow you to fill the form with 1Password but manually click the correct "Sign In" button on the page.
Please let me know how it goes.Flag 0 -
Thanks, I switched the Submit value to Never so that helps going forward for this login. However, I still like to know the conditions that are present that prevent 1P from saving the password information when I create or change it. In the past, I would copy the generated password before "filling" it so that if for some reason, 1P didn't save it, it would be in my clipboard long enough to create a manual login. Now, if 1P doesn't capture it, I need to go through the hassle of resetting the password.
Thanks.

All passwords created by the built-in Strong Password Generator are automatically saved in the Generated Passwords section in 1Password (Preferences > General > Display in Sidebar > Generated Passwords) should you ever need to retrieve one. We try to "get your back" in these sorts of situations. There should be no need to reset the password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
There are many factors which are considered when determining whether to prompt for an autosave, but the most common reasons for Problems Saving Logins Automatically are listed in our FAQ:

Be sure the Autosave option is checked under the 1P button in your browser’s toolbar. This option can also be found in the 1Password > Preferences > Logins window.

If you have multiple accounts for the same domain, 1Password will only prompt to save unique passwords. If you are reusing passwords (boo! hiss!), you will not be prompted to save the second login. You should use unique passwords, but if you choose not to, you will need to manually save the second login using the 1Password > Save Login option.

If the site uses Adobe Flash for the login, 1Password will be unable to save it. See Adobe Flash logins for details.

Some websites perform some “tricks” that prevent 1Password from detecting that a login occurred, so the Autosave bar does not appear. When this happens, you can manually save the Login by selecting Save Login from the 1Password toolbar menu. (Note that the 1Password extensions for Google Chrome currently do not include the option to save a Login manually.)

Awesome. Thanks much!

I'm having trouble with this now.
1p software 371
Safari ext: 3.8.5
generated password in safari does not transfer over to the software. i also went back to the website verifiedbyvisa page (skype purchase — which sends you to a verified by visa page) and tried generated/history and there's nothing there. But the extension did fill in the generated password and log me in. i just have no idea what it was!Flag 0 -

Hey there, Steve! I am sorry you are having this problem. It looks like you are using an old version of 1Password. Just make sure 1Password is up to date (1Password menu > Check for Updates) and see if this helps. The older versions cannot communicate with the latest extensions.

This is not new. But the problem is like the other one with the Safari-Extension which stops sometimes working: The bug is known and that’s it. I don’t believe anymore that I’ll see these problems resolved in this life.

I don't know about that...unless you don't have long to live! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />
I personally only have problems like this when I switch back and forth between incompatible versions of 1Password and the extensions for testing. It's been just two short months since Lion, Safari 5.1, and our new extension were unleashed on the world, and we have come a long way. Please update and then use Help > Troubleshooting > Restart Agent/Helper. If you are still having trouble, I would love to help you get up and running, Thorgeir! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
wow! you put out 7 releases last night?!? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
hmm. pretty sure i hit Update before posting, but guess i wasn't connected to the web at the time. doh. I'll try a Generated Password soon.Flag 0 -
We did a 1Password stable release after a few betas and an extension beta...but yeah, sometimes I have trouble keeping up too! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
The main issue it sounds like you were having was a connectivity problem with the 1PasswordAgent, which will result in data not being sync'd between 1Password and the extension. We have released a number of updates that attempt to work around specific problems that arise in different configurations, so hopefully your troubles are behind you. Let me know how it turns out. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0
