Switched from Mac to Win 7

<div class="IPBDescription">how can I recover my data</div>I was syncing to my iMac. It's and older machine(2002)so it wont let me install the latest version of itunes so I could install the latest OS on my touch. So without any planning, I did a sync on my Win 7 laptop. I figured out how to transfer all the apps from the Mac to the PC via a thumb drive. But my 1Password is missing all of my data.

I can't connect my Touch to the Mac because it has the new OS 4.2.1 which the Mac wont recognize until I upgrade iTunes. I can't ungrade itunes because the OS on the iMac is to old.

My question, is there a way to get my data from my imac to my pc? If not, is there a way to look at the data so I can recopy it manually to my Touch.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

  • Hi radarmile,

I'm sorry to hear about your woes with your old Mac, a friend of mine had a similar situation recently, though thankfully we were able to upgrade his OS to Leopard because he had a G4 MacMini and so it was compatible.

In theory, backing up your iPhone and the applications on it, is all that is required to make sure that you have your 1Password data. In practice, we have found that the iTunes backup and restore process is unreliable for application data, and that is why we include our own backup and restore feature.

If you have your 1Password data synced with 1Password Mac or Windows then you can just re-sync your data very easily.

If you made an app-based backup of your 1Password data, you can restore it using the built-in Backup and Restore feature in 1Password. If so, please see this section on the help guide on how to back up and restore your data:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password_touch/backup.html

Also, iTunes makes a one time backup of all applications during the sync. You may be able to restore your 1Password data by restoring this backup. Please see this article for more information:

I hope one of the solutions works out for you, but if not, unfortunately there's not much we can do to help restore your 1Password data.

I do have it synced on my iMac, but since I synced on my win 7 machine it upgraded me to 4.x. When I try to go back to the iMac it says I can't sync until I upgrade iTunes. Of course I can't because I don't have leopard. Leopard just cost too much for a machine Apple isn't even supporting any longer.

What I think I'm going to do is revert back to 3.2.1. That way I can go back in, get 1password. Once I do that, how can I get it over to the PC? I may have to just write everything down and re-enter once I go back to the PC.

By the way, thanks for the response. I really like 1password a lot.

I'm sorry about that, what I meant is if you synced the data in 1Password with the desktop versions of 1Password, not iTunes in this case.

I agree with you that getting hold of Leopard is quite expensive, have you tried eBay at all? Snow Leopard is a great price, but as you don't have an Intel based Mac it's of no use to you <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

This is something we probably can't provide much help on, as in reverting back to iOS 3.1.3 (the last iOS 3 version), but if you are able to do so and get a previous backup restored you should hopefully get your 1Password data back.

Once you're up and running again, you can create a backup of your 1Password data to your PC using the built-in backup system as described here:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password_touch/backup.html

After you've backed up, we'd suggest using your PC to upgrade to iOS 4 again, it's a very important security update, then reinstall 1Password and restore your data using the file you created using the guide above.

Thanks, radarmile, I'm glad you're enjoying 1Password, even with these issues.
  •
5) Restore your currently existing Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/####### or Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\####### from backup by replacing the existing copy on your local hard drive. (The ####### represents a numeric key unique to your iPhone or iPod Touch, so it is important to select the correct key if you sync with more than one device--you may have to identify the correct key by the time/date stamps on the respective folders. Use the last time you synced your device as your guide.)
Stu,

Does this mean that I can go onto my imac and find this file (Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/#######), and then copy and transfer it to my win 7 machine (C:\Documents and Settings\USERID\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\#######), And then sync to my win 7 machine and I should have all my data back? (That's a lot to say in one sentence!!)
  • In theory yes, it won't be quite as simple as syncing though, you'll need to restore your iPhone from that backup, but it should work. This would be more of an Apple support topic, being honest, because we don't have much control over the iTunes backups, but as far as I know the two versions of iTunes don't use different backup formats.

Good luck, and if we can be of any help, please let us know <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
