Keyboard shortcut not working in Firefox 4

For a while now using Cmd + \ have not worked - I have tried multiple times to set it in the 1password preferences, it sees the right keystrokes but when using Firefox 4 it is not filling in passwords.

atl + cmd + / to show logins works weirdly enough.

Any idea of how to get the keyboard shortcut working again ? Thanks

Welcome to the forums, Max. I'm sorry you're having this problem.

Just to be clear, the ⌘\ shortcut will only be available on a page for which you have a saved login.

Is there a conflicting shortcut for ⌘\ on your system? You can check in System Preferences (Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts). If you are able to set a different keyboard shortcut in 1Password's preferences for “Fill Login,” it sounds like something outside of 1Password is the culprit. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

Is the 1Password extension otherwise completely functional in Firefox 4 for you? Are you able to select “Login with 1Password” in the View menu to login? Is the keyboard shortcut shown in the View menu?

    Please let me know.

I'm having the same problem. The keyboard shortcut in Firefox brings up the Add-Ons toolbar instead. Also, Autosave of passwords doesn't seem to be working anymore. I'm using Firefox 4.0 (RC).

Thanks for the post, Scott, and welcome to the forums.

I've just tried this using Firefox 4.0 RC and the latest version of 1Password 3, the Command + \ shortcut works as expected for me when logging into my Linode account (http://manager.linode.com) and various other sites. If I go to the Tools menu in Firefox the keyboard shortcut for 'Add-ons' is set to be Shift-Command-A.

Could you check, as Khad described above, that you haven't got this setup differently in System Preferences > Keyboard.

Please be sure you are using ⌘\ (Command-Backslash) and not ⌘/ (Command-Forward Slash) which is the default shortcut in Firefox 4 to toggle the Add-on Bar (View > Toolbars > Add-on Bar). <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

    Hi

I am having the same problem. There are no conflicts in System preferences and I am using it on a site (paypal) that has an established 1 PASS log in.

See attached screenshot as a example of what I get. None of the items in the pic are the correct ID and PW.

  • Go & Fill Login

This stopped working for me several weeks ago and I have followed the 2 or threads on this forum and have followed every suggestion ever made to fix it and nothing has worked. A real shame as it is a powerful and necessary feature. I have given up for now and tried to record a macro with Automator to click on the menu itemin Firefo and open the search window and I can't even get that to work. I then thought I would try to record it by going to 1Password menu bar itself and clicking on File/Go & Fill Login, but lo and behold what happens is that Firefox comes to the front, opens a new tab and goes to this website: http://www.iana.org/domains/example/

Weird. Something really screwy here that needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the screenshot, jmarietta. What's interesting is that the interface in the screenshot isn't part of 1Password at all, it's not our normal 'Go & Fill' UI that's for certain. Do you use any other apps such as LaunchBar or Alfred that could be conflicting with the 'Go & FIll' shortcut at all?

The problem with trying to use Automator to, well, automate the Go & Fill process in the way you're describing is that the File > Go & Fill Login item within 1Password isn't the same as bringing up the 'Go & Fill' HUD within the browser. THis option opens the currently selected Login item in your default browser and performs the fill function.

With that said, we clearly need to find out why your 'Go & Fill' feature isn't working at all. If you go to 1Password > Preferences > Logins could you try changing the 'Go & Fill' keyboard shortcut, as a test, and then restarting your browser for this to take affect.

    Hope that helps,

    Hi Stu

Thanks for the reply. I do use launch bar. I guess it is using command\. I guess I will have to go in there and disable it.

    Thanks

    Joe
  • No problem at all Joe! Just FYI, Go & Fill uses Command + Option + \ by default, Command + \ is for the Fill Login option in your browser. I personally switched Go & Fill to Command + Control + \ to avoid another conflict.

  • I'm having an odd problem: 1Password is working fine, but the old cmd+/ shortcut for 1Password to fill a userid and password is not working. I've tried deleting it and reinserting it, and I've tried replacing it with a different keyboard shortcut (cmd-opt-<img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />, but neither worked.

I'm using a Macbook running Leopard with Firefox 4 and the latest 1Password build.
  • I am having the same problem with firefox 4 and the issue seems to be that <cmd-/> hides and unhides the 'Add-On Bar' at the bottom of the webpage. my solution (though not the best) is to change the 1password shortcut to <cmd-\> within the 1password app.

of course I rather change the firefox 4 behavior but I haven't found a way.

    Hey Vordo and Bewildered,

The default keyboard shortcut for filling a login is ⌘\ in 1Password which does not conflict with any shortcut in Firefox 4.

You can create a custom keyboard shortcut for any menu item in Mac OS X if you need to, though (System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Application Shortcuts).

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you need any further assistance. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Cheers,
  • I have the Firefox 4 extension installed. But when I do my keyboard shortcut it is the same as hiding the status bar at the bottom. So when I use my keyboard shortcut it doesn't work. I have tried changing it to something else that firefox doesn't use and it still didn't work. It seems to work if I hold it down for a while.

    Any thoughts?

I have the updated version of firefox 4 and 1password.

Welcome to the forums, gblock0. I'm sorry that you are having this problem. I have merged your post with the appropriate thread. • Hi Khad,

I am facing the same problem. I used Firefox 3, everything worked fine. Then I updated to FF 4, I updated the 1Password extension for FF4 but no shortcut worked any more.

I do see the toolbar and I can use the toolbar to fill in slots. 1Password even recognizes new entries and asks for storing them.

But no shortcut to fill in passwords works. I really tried about 20 different shortcut combinations, but none worked. Strange. Fortunately, I was in test phase and thought about purchasing the product. With this issue, I won't buy it.

My system: Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.6

    FF 4.0

    1Password latest build (30884).

    Any idea?

    Santuzzi

Could you please take screen shots of your 1Password preferences Logins pane and Firefox Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences? You can take a screenshot by pressing Command-Shift-3. This will take a picture of your screen and save it to your Desktop. You can attach it to a reply to this message.

I have attached my own for reference.

Thanks for posting those screen shots!

Your custom keyboard shortcut of ^⌘0 should not be conflicting with anything in Firefox. Please keep in mind that Firefox will need to be restarted for a change in keyboard shortcut to take effect, though.

If you are still having trouble, you might try the latest beta version which resolves some issues with Firefox for a small number of users. It certainly can't hurt to try it. You can always downgrade to the stable version if you want (Preferences > Updates > Include Beta versions).

Please let me know if you have a better experience with the latest 3.6.0 beta version.

    Thanks!

    Hi Khad,

I'm having the exact same problem.

    I'm using CMD + .

When I hit the key combo, nothing happens.

If I manually go to View/Login With 1 Password it works.

This is a deal breaker for me - I'm unable to use FF4 this way.

    This is definitely a bug.

    Please fix it!

    Hey Jon,

While we wish custom keyboard shortcuts could Just Work™ all the time, we are at the mercy of other conflicting keyboard shortcuts.

Unfortunately, ⌘. is "Stop" in the View menu. A different shortcut would need to be recorded for "Stop" in System Preferences in order for ⌘. to work as the "Login with 1Password" shortcut.

If you are still having trouble after changing one of the shortcuts so they do not conflict, could you post a screen shot of Firefox's View menu from your machine? While there is no bug in 1Password, custom keyboard shortcuts can be difficult to set up sometimes, and I would love to help you if you need further assistance.

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

    Hi Khad,

I was using the default shortcut for ages, I've tried many weird and wonderful combinations and it is still not working.

I don't think it is to do with conflicts. I have disabled most of the system wide shortcuts so they don't conflict.

The problem is with the 1PW shortcut inside of Firefox.

The weirdest combination (CMD+±) worked on Safari but not on FF4.

Every combination that worked on Safari, didn't on FF 4.

So it must simply be a problem with the software!

Please let us know what you can do, I have 3 other friends in the office here who are having the same problem.

    Cheers.

    Jon,

This does sound very strange, the keyboard shortcut should work, providing there are no conflicts, but from what you're describing it sounds like there's something else going on. I just tried setting Command + ± (Which of course is Command + Shift + §, at least on my keyboard) and I was able to use this as my 'Go & Fill' keyboard shortcut in Firefox.

So, with that said, to help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report.

Please don't attach the Diagnostics Report here, but instead e-mail it to support@agilewebsolutions.com along with a link back to this post and we'll see what could be happening.

Thanks for your patience on this, I know it must be frustrating when things don't work as you'd expect.
  • Hi there,

I have the very same problem as described above. Since I'm using FF4 the shortcuts to fill the login does not work anymore. I already changed it a couple of times, restarted FF every time, even restarted 1Password and it doesn't work. I now set it to cmd\ since this is the one proposed earlier.

I realised that even clicking on the 1P-button next to the address field doesn't work. The button changes it's color as I would still be clicking on it, but nothing else happens. If I click somewhere else the button turns to its normal color again.

Also going to View->Login.. doesn't work since nothing related to 1Password showes up in view.

However, when I use the right click on the login-field, I get "1Password>" which just doesn't open up.

I attached some screenshots to give you an idea how it looks on my end.

I just checked: I'm using the latest version of 1Password and of FF.

So far, I couldn't it working at all. I normally open up the 1Password-window and copy-paste the passwords...

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums, Steffi! It sounds like it is not so much a matter of a keyboard shortcut as the 1Password extension just simply isn't installed properly in Firefox (if you are unable to even use the mouse to access the toolbar button).

Most commonly this is a symptom of Firefox caching some data from a previous version. You can fix this by completely uninstalling the Firefox extension and reinstalling it:

    1. Make sure Firefox is not running.

    2. Launch 1Password from your /Applications folder

    3. Click 1Password > Preferences > Browsers

    4. Uncheck the box next to all versions of Firefox

    5. Launch Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is *not* listed.

    6. Step #5 is the most important step so I'll repeat it again here <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Launch Firefox and make sure 1Password is not there.

    7. If 1Password is appearing in the Extensions window, click the Uninstall button on the 1Password extension and quit Firefox.

    8. Return to your 1Password window and check the box next to Firefox. There are two versions: 3 and 4. Pick the one that you have installed.

    9. Restart Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is listed.

After following these steps, the Firefox extension will have forgotten everything about previous versions and should work correctly.

Also keep in mind that if you are toggling the "bitness" (32- vs 64-bit) of Firefox, you will need to reinstall the 1Password extension each time you do since different extensions are installed in each case. The bitness, while easy to toggle, was not designed to be toggled frequently but once to 32-bit until compatibility has been achieved and then flipped to 64-bit. If you have no idea what this is about, it likely does not apply to your situation. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!
