Pin Unlock

Gene,

Yeahhh, looking good. Can't tell you how happy I was when I saw the update, I really blinked twice to make sure I was seeing it right.

I am currently running Simply Stunning Gingerbread Rom 2.3.3 from ChevyNo1 and I feel like I have a new phone. Most importantly for you.....1PA is flying on it!

First Impressions...

-Love how when opening 1PA the app automatically places curser in password area and brings up digital keyboard...sweet

-Love the grey look.

-Layout is nice, streamlined

- Everything just looks so much sharper, did you increase the icons to HD? (is that the right term)

-Moving through the app seems fluid, smooth, really nice

Problem...

-The pinlock is not working for me, everytime I put my pin code in and enter it the curser box clears and nothing happens. I have to just exit the program to restart it.

Requests....

-I type and move so fast on my phone I would like the option of being able to see my password as I type. The current setting only allows that checkbox for the function to work after a character is placed in the curser box. Would just make the whole thing smoother for me to tic that box first.

-I see you havent been able to get the letter to show on the alpha scroller when cruising through all my passwords, I still would like to see that.

-As stated earlier I do like the theme, but would like to be able to change it up once in a while like in 1PA 1.6 versions.

Guys nice work!

Arn

Same issue with me, i.e.: the pinlock. Half the time it seems to work, but the other half requires that I put in the full password.
  • Hi kagy and Gazooo123, thanks for the great feedback on the latest version of 1Password for Android, I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing some issues with the PIN unlock.

I've dropped Gene a note with a link to this thread so he can take a look at what's happening and also see the feedback for himself.

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for the detailed feedback about the application.

I am currently reviewing the issue with PIN lock, I understand that locking with Master Password works fine but PIN lock doesn't work at all for some users.

So entering PIN doesn't unlock the application, the lock window doesn't disappear and PIN entered simply cleared up, am I correct ?

(This usually happen when PIN is invalid)

I am working on the issue but still unable to reproduce the issue on my phone.PIN lock/unlock works perfectly fine under any circumstances.

Will keep you updated on the issue.

It will be nice if you provide more information on what exactly not working : does PIN window work sometimes ? or not at all ? Did it work in the previous release ?

Did you select a valid PIN ? Try to use a very simple PIN : 123 and see if it works. Press Home button and then relaunch the app: does PIN window appear ? Does it accept

PIN 123 ? What about Back button ? What about locking the application with Menu->Lock ? What if you deliberately enter invalid PIN: what happens ?

Thank you in advance for the information.

    Best regards,

    Gene

    Hey Gene,

Here is what I have for you....

    1. Does PIN window work sometimes ?

    -Does not work at all

    2. Did it work in the previous release ?

    -Yes it did

    3. Did you select a valid PIN ? Try to use a very simple PIN : 123 and see if it works.

    -Does not work

    5. Press Home button and then relaunch the app: does PIN window appear ?

    -Yes the PIN window appears.

    6. Does it accept PIN 123 ?

-No, does not accept the PIN.

    7. What about Back button?

-Back button makes the PIN window appear over and over. At this point I am stuck it will not accept the pin or give me access to any other function within 1PA. I then need to force close via the Manage Applications system settings area or enter an invalid PIN 5 times.

    8. What about locking the application with Menu->Lock ?

-When I Lock via the Menu the next window that pops up is the PIN window.

    9. What if you deliberately enter invalid PIN: what happens?

-I get the message that 4 invalid (or something like that) attempts have been made and to try the last one. After the last invalid attempt is made the app closes and sends me back to my home screen. When I open 1PA after that the Master Password window opens.

    Hope this helps...

    Hi Gazooo123,

Thank you for the detailed information. I am redesigning the whole locking/unlocking part of the application, will post an update by the end of this week.

The problem has not been reproduced on my phone, Agile QA team also was not able to see the issue.

However, I am implementing a different approach, will see how it works for you.

Please stay tuned for the updates.

    Regards,

    Gene

    Hi Gene,

I'm having a bit of a different situation with the PIN. It works fine for me except when I first launch the program after turning the phone on, or if I "exit" the program, it wants the full password. It also seems to "time-out" after a while, necessitating the full password to reopen the program. Once the program is on and active, then the PIN works fine to display the keychain.

Now here's problem that I had in the beginning that I can no longer reproduce, but I'll mention it here to see if anyone else has experienced it: that is, I would lock 1PW, but I could always get back to the keychain by using the back button - not something I think desirable. Like I said, I can no longer reproduce that issue, so I suppose all is well concerning this glitch. Once I lock the program, the only way I want to be able to display the keychain is by entering a password or PIN.

Edit: I've just discovered that anytime my phone locks down, which is effectively any time I'm not using it and the screen goes dark, I must input a full password again in order to use 1PW.

    Hi kagy,

    Thank you for the information.

Of course, login with Master Password is always required when you launch the application after rebooting or explicitly exit and relaunch it.

PIN number is used exclusively for locking in 1Password for Android Beta version. Master Password is always required on the first invocation and is used

for decrypting your secure data (it is not stored anywhere on the phone).

I am going to publish a new release of the application by the end of this week, let's see how locking will work in this new version.

    Regards,

    Gene

In all honesty, Gene, I figure that most of this is a case of user-error. I'm pretty confident that the program is working as designed, and my learning curve will finally catch up to the technology.

    Hi kagy,

Thank you for the good words.

However, I think that the application should be done as much "user-error proof" as possible.

That is my ultimate goal to make 1Password for Android to work fine for every user and on every Android phone

(I admit that Android Operation System is so hardware dependent, the same thing may work and look so much different on different phone models).

I feel somewhat envious to iOS developers, they don't have this issue because all iOS phones are essentially the same (there may be some issues with

OS versions though but that is a separate story).

In any case, just wanted to let you know that I published a new release of 1Password for Android on Market today Mar 18,11. Please download and install the new version and give it a try.

And please let me know your comments, suggestions and recommendations, they are very important in development process.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Gene

The 1.7.0.2 release appears to have fixed this PIN unlocking issue for me. Thanks!
  • The new version seems to be working as advertised. Fixed the issue of me being able to use the "back" button to visit unlocked pages, and now the PIN is all I need to open the program once I initially open it with a password.

    Thanks, Gene.

OK, you beat me on that one, though I could just drop into the conversation that the majority of the Agile team were in the Dominican Republic in January, for a working vacation, all I can say is that it was truly amazing.

    Hello 1Password for Android users,

I am very glad that the annoying issue with locking is resolved in the latest version.

That was a hard thing for me to figure out what went wrong because my phone behaved impeccably from the very beginning.

Our QA team also did not report the issue.

The whole locking logic was redesigned and retested using a different approach, this time I was sure everything should behave as expected.

BTW,I completely agree with Stu: Agile Conference in Dominican Republic was really great !

    Best regards,

    Gene

    Hi Arn,

Very glad to know, that was a serious issue.....

Please stay tuned for the updates.

Just wanted to ask you about the application schemes and colors : do you find fonts easy to read ?

Our QA team and majority of users like the new fonts and colors, however some users prefer black and white Android default colors

(to me the Android default color scheme is too somber, I like something brighter but that is the matter of choice).

In any case the battery on my Nexus 1 is simply fantastic, lasts forever (I have an extra one but never use it).

It means that even much brighter colors won't hopefully cause much battery drainage (not as on Windows Phone 7....)

Please let me know what you think.

    Gene
