Changing Vault types (eg "Logins" to "Wallet"

<div class="IPBDescription">How do I change an account that is a "Login" to something else</div>Hi folks - I am new to 1Password. I switched from "Steel" just yesterday. 1Password is *great* so far! I am already a fan.

Question: when I imported in all my accounts from Steel to 1Password, I did so using a text file export / import. However all entries were assigned to the vault type of "Logins". Some of these entries are credit card, ATM machine passwords etc. These should be assigned to the type of "Wallet". How do I change an entry of type "Logins" to "Wallet" (as an example)?

Thanks!

    Hi Nimish,

I am sorry to say, currently there is no way to change vaults like that, we all are awaiting a feature like this. The only way to do this is to manually add the entry.

    Nimish,

Tommy is exactly right when he says:

What I can add to this is that we are looking into making this possible in a future update to 1Password, though I don't have a timeframe for exactly when this may be.
  • Hi there, here's +1 awaiting this feature - and I'm also a bit surprised, something that simple isn't possible yet .... Or (can hardly imagine though!) perhaps even hard to implement???

Well anyway would be great for new users - I imported loads of PW-data from KeepassX, and there's probably a lot of switchers like us out there <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Thanks for your vote. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

This would certainly be a great feature, but it is not a simple thing to implement with the current data format (since every item would not have the same fields when you "switch vaults").

Please stay tuned, though. There is more than one way to solve this problem.
  • I’m a new user, just migrated from Web Confidential. The ability to change the category type was one of it’s best features. I look forward to this update.
  • Hi,

I need this too. Currently I'm using SplashID in PC, Mac and iPad. I created different kind of custom types and need to do the same in 1Password.

I'm web designer and sometimes I need to add a lot of info in a single register. Ex. Website login access, FTP access, WHM and CPanel access. DBase access, etc.

At the moment the only solution I have with 1Password is creating different registers. With SplashID I have all these info in one item.

So, I need this feature. Do you have plans to add this option this year or next?

    Thanks!
  • Welcome to the forums, Ricardo and Chet!

We really try not to discuss future plans, since we don't want to dangle carrots in front of anyone. We would definitely like to add more flexibility, but right now we are concentrating on getting ready for Lion, so new features may have to wait a bit. We prefer to just play our hand close to the chest and then surprise you guys with cool new stuff.

I think with all the votes for this (both from you guys and internally) we might not have much of a choice, but it may take some time. I know this doesn't help you guys right now, but please be patient. We have big plans for 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    I understand.

I need your advise. Currently I have this structure:

    Site Name:

    URL:

    Username:

    Password:

    Protected 1 (htaccess):

    Protected 2 (htaccess):

    FTP Host:

    Username:

    Password:

    How should I use 1Password?

    I think I have 3 options here.

    1. Use weblogin and add the other info as notes.

    2. Use weblogin and FTP (online services).

    3. Use notes.

    Is there any other option?

I think this is really kind of a personal thing, but I try to organize my 1Password data logically based on how I use it.

For example, I have credit card accounts that, of course, include a variety of information such as

name

address

card number

expiration date

CCV number

card type

bank name

bank phone number

the login URL

username

password

security question responses
Now, I really don't need all of that data together, necessarily. For instance, when I'm logging in to the site, I need to fill different information than when I am entering payment information to make a purchase; so I actually break the one account into 3 items in 1Password (a Login item, a Wallet item, and an Identity) based on how I use the data.

So, to answer your question: It is entirely up to you. For myself, I would probably go with a two item web/FTP combination, with additional information that doesn't fit in any of the predefined fields stored as Notes in one or the other.

Anyway, I hope this gives you some ideas. Let me know how it goes. I am sure that others that would be interested to hear what you come up with as well. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • Hi Ricardo,

Did you see the followup to your question in:

I'm getting close, need more help

    ?

There might be some SplashID topic overlap here and there (and even here) that one of the post/topic merge ninja moderators could help sort out. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
