Dropbox sync from PC to new Mac

I used to use 1Password & sync between my PC, iPhone & iPad by Dropbox perfectly. Recently I bought a new MacBook Pro & installed the 1Password 3. I have set up the Dropbox in my new Mac, all files are up to date with a green check mark. I have make sure both my PC & Mac are operating in the latest 1Password version. I can see the Dropbox folder with the 1Password.agilekeychain file. However, no matter how I double click the file or dragging the file into 1Password 3, it doesn't sync to 1Password 3 on Mac. Please help.

Welcome to the forums, RubyK. I'm sorry that you are having trouble syncing. Let's fix that. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Are you able to open the data file by selecting "Restore Data File from Backup" in the File menu? In the Restore Data File Backup window, click the "Select Other" button and then locate your data file in the Dropbox folder.

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I can locate the Dropbox folder when I go to the "Restore data file backup" & click "Select Other". But the "1Password.agilekeychain" file is dimmed and cannot be selected. What can I do next?

I'm sorry for my first post. I forgot that we added the ability to open a backup file as a data file but not the reverse. My apologies for leading you down the wrong trail.

Could you please post a screenshot of the Get Info window for your 1Password.agilekeychain file? I have posted my own for reference.

    To take a screen shot:

Open Finder, select your 1Password.agilekeychain file, and then select "Get Info" from the file menu. Then press ⇧⌘4 on your keyboard. Once your cursor turns into crosshairs, press the Space bar and then click on the Get Info window you opened. The screen shot will be saved to your Desktop. You can attach the image in your reply to this post.

Please also let me know what version of 1Password for Mac you are using. Thanks!
  • My 1Password for Mac is version 3.5.9. Screen shot is attached.

This screenshot looks good. What happens when you double click it in Finder? It should launch or bring 1Password to the front and offer to use this data file. If it doesn't prompt you to use it, it could mean that 1Password is already pointing to this data file location, so please double check what 1Password shows in 1Password > Preferences > General for your data file location.

If you're still not seeing changes from one of your other installations show up in 1Password, it could be that 1PasswordAgent is not running properly to recognize the changes in the data file location. In that case, please try restarting your Mac and see if that helps as that will reset the 1PasswordAgent's configuration.

Please let us know what you find.
  • Thanks for reply.

    1. When double click the file in Finder, it launches the 1Password, but no data is in the 1Password.

    2. Data location in 1Password > Preferences > General is Users>Ruby>Dropbox>1Password.agilekeychain; so should be ok.

    3. After restarting Mac, still no change.

I also checked on my iPhone 1Password to see if sync with Dropbox is fine (which I've been using before to sync with my PC & iPad). But it said Dropbox sync failed because the remote encryption keys have changed. Please tap reset and try again. So I tap reset on iPhone syncing setting to start over again which completed successfully. Maybe this help to reset the configuration, so the 1Password on Mac can load data & work now.

I'm not clear if everything is working on your Mac yet or if you were just hopeful.
