Two 1Password users on 1 computer
We bought a 1Password family pack and my wife and I each have an account on a work computer and iOS device, which are sync'd by Dropbox (separately). We decided we needed a home computer (Mac), so we bought one and would like to install Dropbox and each have access to our 1Password. The only way I could think of doing it would be to have separate OS X user accounts, and set up separate Dropbox syncing in each. Is there a simpler or more elegant way to do this? It seems like a limitation of Dropbox as much as 1Password... Thanks.
P.S. As an aside, when registering for the Agile forums, 1Password incorrectly recognized my email as the "username" instead of the UserName field. I fixed the entry in 1Password by changing which field had the checkmark, but I though this was ironic!

What could be more elegant that having two user accounts in a multi-user operating system? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
In short, that is both the prescribed and ideal solution.

It looks like this works properly in our Chrome extension which is using our very latest form filling code. I don't have a time frame for when it will be ported back to our Safari and Firefox extensions, but it is already fixed. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Welcome to the forums, mrsjburma!
I have my eyes on all threads. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />
Could you be a bit more specific as to what issue you were having? I addressed two different issues in my post above, but I would love to know how I can help you.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
oh great!! thank you.
let me see if i can explain this clearly.
hardware involved: IMac, used by me and my husband, Larry. we each have our own profile
MacBook Pro: just mine <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
2 iphone 3gs: one is mine and one is Larry's
initial set up: i had my own 1PW, my own DropBox account, DB installed on imac, mbp, and my iphone. the db on imac was also available for Larry.
all software is up to date.
everything was great. THEN: here is where the problem started.
We got a family license for 1PW, yay, so we had 1PW for Larry, for himself, i thought. we installed his 1pw on the imac. so far so good. both larry's and my 1 pw seemed to work. THEN he purchased 1pw pro for his iphone, in case he gets ipad. installed db with his own email and acct. on dropbox, i thought. and on his iphone, i think. could not sync his iphone with his 1pw on imac. could not see option to add account. so then it was asking to sync with me (i thought it was for network, but everything is connected to one network) so i entered the 2 secret words, and now all of my 1pw is on his phone and his is not.
his 1pw is still on our imac, and so is mine on my profile, but he is unable to sync his imac 1pw with his iphone. i also have a db account on the imac.
so, with 2 profiles on imac, can we each have our own 1pw? and our own Dropboxes? i sync my iphone to my macbook pro. larry syncs to his profile on the imac.
i have used this forum before and you were sooooo helpful. i look forward to the same experience.
i will be leaving shortly for work and will check back in Around 6pm EST
i hope this is somewhat clearFlag 0 -

Well, welcome back; thanks for the kind words; and I hope I can live up to your previous experience. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />
It sounds like you want to have completely separate 1Password data from your husband Larry. Is this the case? If so, you were on the right track until you performed a manual Wi-Fi sync.
As you mentioned, it is important to each have your own (1) Mac OS X login account, (2) Dropbox account, and (3) 1Password for Mac license (a family license will also work since it covers up to five users in the same household).
When you entered the secret codes, you performed a Wi-Fi sync from your copy of 1Password for Mac to his iPhone. Because there is a small potential for data loss, I want to take this one step at a time. Please bear with me.
Is all of your 1Password data showing in 1Password under your Mac OS X account?
Is all of Larry's 1Password data showing in 1Password under his Mac OS X account?
It sounds like the answers to those questions are both "yes", but I want to be absolutely certain before we proceed. Please let me know.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. the answer to your question is yes.
i also need to change my individual license # for 1PW to our family license. not sure how to do this. I did this <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />Flag 0 -
Hi. all of my data shows up on my account in IMAC, my macbook pro, and my iphone. have a sad update. i went to follow thru with your suggestions, but when i opened Larry's 1PW on his Imac account, it had my info. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> i am so confused and if possible would like to resolve this today because i am now having nightmares about thisFlag 0

No problem. We'll get you sorted out. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
First, be sure that Larry is logged in to his own Mac OS X account and that he has Dropbox installed and signed in to his own Dropbox account. If you need any help in that regard, please let me know. I can back up and assist you more with those steps if needed.
Next, you can restore a backup of Larry's data from within 1Password (File > Restore Data File from Backup).

Select the most recent backup that has a different item count than your data. That is most likely his latest backup.
If Larry's data is not already stored in his Dropbox folder, click the "Move to Dropbox" button in 1Password's preferences.
In your own Mac OS X account, be sure that you are logged in to your own Dropbox account in the Dropbox application.

Now verify that all Larry's data is in 1Password in his account and yours in in your account. This step is important. If you have any of each other's data on your mobile devices, you will need to delete 1Password from your mobile device(s), reinstall it*, and then set up Dropbox syncing fresh.
Please be sure you log in to your Dropbox account and Larry logs into his or you will be syncing the wrong data again. Also, be careful not to enable Wi-Fi syncing in the mobile apps as that sounds like the way in which you synced your mobile device to Larry's 1Password installation.
There is a lot to take in, so if you get stuck at point, just let me know. It might be safer to wait for clarification if you need it than to charge ahead if you are unsure at any step of the way. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
Let me know if I can be of further assistance!
* Please only perform this step once you have verified that all of your data is in 1Password on your Mac (likewise for Larry and his 1Password data). You can remove 1Password by pressing and holding on the 1Password icon until all the icons start to jiggle. Then you can click the X in the top left corner to uninstall 1Password. Once 1Password disappears, you can press the home button to stop the icons from jiggling. You can then either re-sync the 1Password app over from your computer, or download a fresh copy from the App Store right on your device. Open the App Store app on your device, tap "Updates" and then "Purchased". Search for 1Password and then tap the "cloud" button to reinstall the app.Flag 0 -

OK. I checked everything as you suggested and when I log in to my Mac OS X account with my dropbox, it is only my data, and same for Larry's. YAY
Now for my next step: syncing Larry's 1PW to his iphone. I deleted his 1PW pro app from his phone (which i know we can get back, right??)
If you would not mind, I would really appreciate it if you could just review that process for me so I don't mess it up again.
thank you again so much for all your help and patience.Flag 0 -
Absolutely! I am glad to hear that worked for you.
To get 1Password reinstalled on Larry's iPhone, just launch the App Store and go to Updates > Purchased.

Then "pull" down the list to reveal the search field at the top, search for "1Password", and tap the "cloud" button to redownload the purchased app. (Mine is already installed, so the button reflects this.)

Once you've done that, just follow our iPhone Dropbox tutorial to complete the sync setup, making sure to log log into Larry's Dropbox account during the process.
