DropBox sync

<div class="IPBDescription">multiple Macs at the same time?</div>New user of 1Password here thanks to https://www.mupromo.com/ ... <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

I've set up dropbox sync correctly, but I've got a quick question: can I access the keychain from multiple computers at the same time? I don't use the iOS app (yet).

Thanks!

I'm not really sure how you would do this since there is only one of you and the 1Password license in the bundle is only for a single user. It would be hard to make changes on two different computer at exactly the same time. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />

That said, you can certainly install 1Password for Mac on as many Macs as you can afford as long as you are the only user. Dropbox syncing will work across all of them.

If you do manage to get a sync conflict by making two simultaneous changes, 1Password will prompt you with its built-in Conflict Resolver.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Cheers!
  • Thanks Khad! I am indeed the only user - I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, and should have rephrased my question:

is it okay to have the 1Password app active and open on both computers accessing the same keychain at the same time. I used to use KeePassX and was used to having to close the database file before opening it on another Mac!

    PS. Loving 1Password so far <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Since Dropbox syncs the data in the background, you are not actually editing the exact same file. (Dropbox makes it the same file through synchronization, but each machine has a local copy of the data as its active data file.)

You don't have to do anything special. Just use your Macs and 1Password as you please. Dropbox will handle it all automagically. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
