iPad to iPhone restore

When trying to do a iPad to iPhone restore none of my information is coming over. It asks for the 4-digit code which I am successful in entering but no data...

What am I doing wrong?

    Hi GeeSix,

I'm sorry for the trouble here, because the iPad version of 1Password doesn't use an unlock code like the iPhone version it doesn't put an unlock code into the backup file and so there's nothing for the iPhone version to match an unlock code too.

That means if you’re backing up the 1Password data on your iPad and restoring it to your iPhone there’s one extra step, and it’s really important: before you do the backup from your iPad, you must change the master password (Settings > Security > Change Master Password) on your iPad to a four-digit number, using only 0 through 9. When you restore the backed up data to your iPhone or iPod touch, the unlock code and the master password for the 1Password app on that device will be set to that same four-digit number.

You can change the unlock code, if you like, as soon as the restore is complete. And don’t forget to reset the master password on your iPad and iPhone to something much stronger.

Of course, the easiest way to keep your data in sync between your iPhone and iPad is to sync using the free and secure Dropbox service. The setup for this does require the use of our desktop apps for Mac or Windows, both of which are available as free trials from http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads and once you have Dropbox syncing setup you can uninstall the desktop app, if you want to. You can read more about Dropbox syncing here:

    Hope that helps,

Thanks for your help Stu, I did find and follow the directions about changing the master password on the iPad prior to backing it up in preparation of restoring on the iPhone. I did that, changed my master password to 4 digits (numbers), backed up the iPad, restored to the iPhone, it asks for the four digit number, I enter it successfully but then nothing. No data.

Because of iOS’s multitasking features, it maybe that your information isn’t visible immediately upon restoring a backup. To remedy this, either restart your iOS device or fully quit 1Password and restart it:

Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.

Press the Home button twice, quickly, to invoke the application switcher.

Press one of the icons in the application switcher until they start to jiggle.

Tap the red Close icon in the top-left corner of the 1Password icon to fully quit 1Password.

Restart and unlock 1Password to view your data.
Please let me know how it turns out.
  • Good call khad, that did the trick. Just a suggestion; maybe add that little tidbit of info to the instructions or modify the app to "auto" refresh after a restore?

    Thank you for your help.

Good suggestion, thanks GeeSix! We modified the backup and restore guides with this tidbit, but we need to be better about telling users about this too, apologies on my part for forgetting <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />
