Deleting Old Backups

In my 1Password Backups folder I have Keychain Backups as well as agilekeychain Backups going back to 2008/2009. Can I trash most of these backups, and if so, how many of my recent backups should I retain?

I am using an iMac with the latest versions of Snow Leopard.

  • Hi anthonyrt,

First of all, welcome to the forums, please make yourself at home, there's coffee, tea, cakes and more available in the lounge and we have a wonderful bunch of folks here to help you out <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

The older 'Keychain Backups' are from the days of 1Password 2, when we used to use the OS X Keychain format. If you're using 1Password 3 and hence the new Agile Keychain format, as it seems that you are, you can safely delete these Keychain backups.

You're free to delete the Agile Keychain backups if you want to, and you can also control how often 1Password makes a backup of your data file and how many backups are kept by going to 1Password > Preferences > Backups from within 1Password itself. The number of backups you keep really depends on how much you feel confident in your backup solutions, I personally keep 10 because I also have Time Machine backing up to a Time Capsule as well as Backblaze running and a weekly clone of my drive.

    Hope that helps,
