Feature Request: Mass/Bulk Editing

<div class="IPBDescription">change multiple items at once</div>My webhosting provider recently changed the url they use for account management. I manage a couple accounts of my own, plus several others for family and friends -- so, I've got about 20 different logins all with the same hosting company which now no longer work.

What I'm hoping is there's a way to bulk edit, perhaps with a find/replace kind of function, to change www.fusednetwork.com to www.fused.com

Any chance there's a way to do this? Or do I have to go in and edit them one by one? Posting this question and checking back for answers will probably end up taking as long as the one-by-one editing <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> but at least I'll know for next time. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

  • Scott,

I know you want an automated way to do it and I agree that'd be nice…

…but I suspect that finding all occurrences of 'fusedn' then pasting www.fused.com into the respective fields in each record wouldn't take all that long (4 mins?)

I'd certainly support global Find and Replace in a future release - if for no other reason than that this procedure requires each record to be unlocked.

    Or AppleScriptability/Automator-readiness <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />.

    Good luck!

    Welcome to the forums, Scott!

You and Mark both raise a great idea. This has come up a few times before, and while we are looking at ways to do this, there is not a time frame for a specific release right now.

Just as an aside, due to the way 1Password handles your data encryption, each item would need to be decrypted individually. Not a monumental task for a modern desktop computer, but a possible security concern for some folks. In its current state, 1Password never fully decrypts all your data. Only a single pice of information is decrypted at a time. This is much more secure and much quicker than decrypting your entire data file at once.

Further details can be found in the "Unlocked vaults or unlocked boxes" section of our "Security of storing 1Password data in the Cloud" document. So, while a global find & replace is certainly not impossible by any means, I just thought I would take a moment to share that bit of trivia with you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I agree. It's the difference between giving someone a fish and teaching someone to fish. Unfortunately, I am vegetarian. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

I hope we can have a better answer in a future release.
  • Khad,

    Thanks - as always <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I'd prefer secure encryption over all record open at once any day.

We think you should be able to have your cake and eat it too. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I was going to say... must be meal time!

And - thanks for you reply to my question!
  • Is there a way to bulk edit 1Password logins? I just imported all my keychains from OSX and a lot of them are preappended with www.whatever.com. I want to get rid of the www on a bunch of these, maybe merge login credentials or search for duplicates to the same site. at the very least, I'd like to be able to click the edit button once and just click down to the next item (or arrow down on my keyboard) without having to click the edit button every time.

    Thanks!

We are not there yet, but this is definitely something we hope to improve in a future release.

Thanks for letting us know you would appreciate it as well. You keep us motivated to charge ahead. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />
