Feature Request: keyboard shortcuts for copy and search

Hello,

I have a small feature request: I would like to navigate the application better with my keyboard. My primary usage is that I have tons of "root" passwords stored in 1password, this means that I don't use it that much for the browser, so I need to manually look up the password everytime I need to manage a specific machine. Today I use "alfred" to open 1password, then I can search on the machine name, all this without my keyboard. But after this I need the mouse, because I can't copy the password without it, and if I want to search again I need to use the mouse again.

Suggestion: Add cmd+l to navigate to the search bar, add cmd+shift+c to copy the current password.

Sounds good, doesn't it? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks for a great product.

  • Hi tru,

Thanks for your post and feedback, I'm a bit of a keyboard junkie myself and a huge Alfred fan so I do see where you're coming from.

Some good news to start with, 1Password already has the common Command + F keyboard shortcut to activate the search field within the app itself, so you can at least start a new search without the mouse.

We have had a few suggestions to add a keyboard shortcut for copying just the password from an item, and I have to say I like the idea of Command + Shift + C. I'll mention this to our developers again, but I can't promise if this is something that could be implementing quickly or if it'll require more work to get right, so as such I couldn't offer a timeframe for if or when we'll have a 'Copy Password' keyboard shortcut available.

    Hope that helps,

  • Hi,

I'm currently testing 1Password and also looking for better keyboard support. Was actually a bit surprised that it didn't exist. Shortcuts for copying the password and username of the selected item is something I'd really like to see. Adding menu items for copying that allows for setting custom keyboard shortcuts would do I suppose.

Command + C copies what looks like a json object containing data about the selected item. Not sure what the use of this is.

Shortcuts like Command + C for copying the password and Command + Shift + C for the username seems like a good idea.

I was also surprised when I found out the alt (option) key toggles the visibility of the password of the selected item. This is something I'd like to turn off since it means that it's too easy to accidentally reveal the password, for example when using key combinations that include the alt key. Where can I find info about the shortcuts that 1Password uses?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums, MoeGreene,

    Thanks for the feedback!

At this time there is not a way to disable the Option key toggling of password display, but we will consider this in the future.

Right now the best way is probably looking at the menu items. The Option key is the only "hidden" keyboard shortcut I can think of offhand.

You are correct. The JSON data can be used for duplicating an item (⌘C then ⌘V) and for troubleshooting purposes.

I wouldn't mind seeing this functionality relegated to a more obscure shortcut since we already have a "Duplicate" keyboard shortcut (Edit > Duplicate ⌘D).

We are still discussing this internally, and really appreciate your input.

    Cheers!
