iPhone master password issue

Hi all. I just put 1Password on my iPhone and did a successful wifi sync. All of my settings seem to have transferred, but when I attempt to view a password, my password gets rejected every time. I was never prompted to create a new one on the iPhone, and am trying to use the one I set up on the Mac.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  • Hiya, henrod! Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Your Master Password is tied to the specific installation of 1Password on a particular device. When you first set up 1Password on your iPhone, you created a Master Password. This stays the same, even if you sync data from another device. You are not sync'ing the keychain itself, so much as the items contained therein. This way, you can have a different Master Password on your iPhone, Mac, and any other devices you use. Of course you can use the same Master Password for all of them if you wish, but you would have to set it up that way initially.

    I'm sorry for the confusion. I hope this answers your question. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Well, none of my possible passwords is working. How can I reset the password on the iPhone?

    Thanks.

PS - I've already made 9 attempts - will I be locked out at some point?

  • Wow, you sure are fast, henrod!

There is no hard lockout on bad password attempts; however, there is an ever-increasing timeout after each failed password attempt.

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover your password (as this would make it easier for someone to circumvent the security of your data.) If you still can't remember the Master Password for your 1Password on your iPhone, the only real option is to delete the app and start from scratch. Since you have already paid for it, there is no charge to redownload the app from the App Store (so long as it is the same app and you are using the account you bought it with.) It will still list a price and prompt you to "buy" it, but once you authenticate an account that has already purchased it, it will recognize this.

Also, if you have all of your data on your Mac (it sounds as if you do, since you were sync'ing the two), you can simply resync your data to the iPhone app once you have set it up with a new Master Password -- just be sure to use the strongest password you can remember. Security is important, but having something so secure that we can't even access it ourselves in only useful in very rare cases. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
