Because Safari is installed on every Mac when new Chrome is not. This is to prevent problems and make sure the help files open up for everyone without any configuration.

That doesnt matter as its not installed on all Macs from the factory the line had to be drawn somewhere. I am sorry there is nothing I can do regarding this. It was a decision from the developers long ago before the chrome browser was publicly released.

I am not sure how much they get for this type of requests but I think we can add your vote to it. I have heard it asked for a few times <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • Indeed. No disrespect to Safari, but it is the Mac equivalent of Internet Explorer: On Windows, the Internet Explorer engine is used for the help system; similarly, the decision was made here at Agile to use Safari on Mac OS X because 1) it is installed on every Mac, 2) it is robust, and 3) we can optimize for it to ensure that our documentation works well for everyone. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

In this sense, it is a "lowest common denominator" situation. Using Safari was the best option at the time, but in 2011 Chrome and now Firefox 4 really shining, perhaps we will reevaluate this in future versions of 1Password.

As an aside, I try my best to be unbiased. I use both Chrome and Safari pretty much equally, with a bit of Firefox and Opera on the side; and I know that we have team members who use those and other browsers heavily as well, so we will have to be sure we don't start a "holy war" internally over browser support. This is why we try to support as many as possible with extensions, so nobody on the team feels like we're "playing favourites." <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
