Feature Request: Selective Sync

<div class="IPBDescription">(was: Excluding Records from Syncing)</div>Hello Wonderful Agile Staff,

Has any consideration been put towards selectively excluding password records from the syncing process?

For instance, in my situation where I use a computer at home and work, in addition to an iPhone that I sync to, I don't want all of my data on my home computer to find its way on to my work computer, and visa versa. The issue is that I allow my secretary entire access to my office computer as I keep log-on information to other computer users in the office. It is company policy that our computer users register their passwords with me. When I am not available and we need access to this information, my secretary will get that data.

But again, because I do have common passwords that I do want synced via my iPhone, I don't want all of my passwords that I have stored on my office computer, to eventually sync to my home computer.

It would be great if each record contained a "Sync" checkbox that we could use to exclude that particular record from the sync functions.

What do you think?

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sincerely

Rick101

I see we are starting off on the right foot. We think you are fantastic as well! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

While the easiest sync solution — my preferred one — is Dropbox, Wi-Fi syncing actually does do selective sync. I would hate to have to suggest you go back to manual syncing via Wi-Fi when Dropbox syncing is so pleasant and automatic. I wonder how else we can address this.

One thing that has come up a lot lately (that we are actively pursuing) is the concept of shared passwords. For example, you could have certain passwords that are only shared with you secretary but you could also have ones to which only you yourself have access. I could see your suggestion working well with that sort of framework in place. Since the groups would already be established, perhaps we could take advantage of them for selective syncing.

I certainly can't make any promises about when or even if this would be available, but I will mention it to the developers.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

    Thanks!

I'd love to be able to exclude some 1P desktop records from my sync to iPhone. Elsewhere here I've read that this is not possible. So what could "selective sync" mean here?

I'm guessing that what Khad is saying is that if you have 2 desktops A and B syncing to a single iOS device then A's records will not end up on B, nor B's records on A. The iPhone would have both A's and B's records. Am I right, Khad?

And if this is true, how would duplicate names be handled? Say desktop A has a record named XYZ and desktop B has an entirely different record with the same name. How would the iPhone this situation?

    Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion! The sync is a true two-way sync, so if two computers are synced with a single iOS device, all three devices will have the same data.

Where selective sync comes into play is if you use the direct Wi-Fi sync instead of Dropbox sync for syncing with your iOS device. In that case, when you select the iOS device in 1Password's sidebar, you will see the selective sync options on the right: "Sync all items" and "Sync only select folders".
