Unable to Edit antying on Android App?

Hi guys,

I'm new to 1Password, and I'm still testing it.

I'm unable to Edit antying using the Android App (Setup to sync with Dropbox)? Is the just how it works?

Because I would think that to make this a useful app, that you should be able to edit items instead of just reading them.

Thanks.

    Hi TheSuperman ,

Thank you for your interest in 1Password for Android and welcome to the Forum.

As it stays today, 1Password for Android is designed as a 1Password Data Reader and works together with 1Password for Mac/PC.

It works as a vault providing functionality to store/review the data on Android phone and synchronize the phone with Mac/PC through Dropbox Server.

Therefore in order to see your secure data on your phone you should have 1Password application

installed on your PC or Mac first.

If you don't have 1Password installed on your computer, you can easily download it from Agile website http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads.

Once you have the application installed on your computer, you can place the 1Password data file inside of Dropbox

and will be able to synchronize your secure data with your Android phone.

Stand alone version of 1Password for Android is currently in development so please stay tuned for the updates.

You can find detailed information on Agile products on our company website and review the 1Password for Android application help.

Please let me know if you need more info.

    Best Regards,

    Gene

  • I too am evaluating. I can't see buying without 2 way sync. Any projection on time of release for 2 way sync? Weeks? Months? Year(s)?

I can hold out for a little while and email password changes from work, etc back to home to enter later, but not forever.

    Hello yearn2burn,

I thank you for the interest in 1Passwor for Android.

Everything I can say that the editable version of the application is currently in development.

However, it is pretty hard for me to give you an exact time estimates on that.

The good news I can say is that it is not going to take years to build a fully functional application.

Please be patient and stay tuned for the new releases.

And forward to us your suggestions and recommendations on 1Password for Android and other Agile products.

    Best regards,

  • I tried this program out after a friend recommended it.

completely useless without being able to edit and create on the android site.

    Whats the point?

so if I got to as new website on android...then I cant create or save new accounts?

why would you even bother to release a half finished program.

The desktop version seems to be decent.

I need to sync with Android.

I need to be able to edit my data on Android.

I need to be able to create data on Android.

c'mon you guys are brains behind this, surely your team can figure this out.

I'm not giving you any money until you finish your software.

really guys that not too much to ask when every other password program that has desktop and mobile version ..lets you edit on both ends.

    Hello jakobe,

    Thank you for the feedback.

I completely agree that ability to add/edd secure items on the phone is a critical feature of the application.

As it stands now, 1Password for Andriod works as a 1Password Data Reader and has been desisgned as a complement to 1Password for PC/Mac application.

It works as a vault providing functionality to store/review the data on Android phone and synchronize the phone with Mac/PC through Dropbox Server.

The fully functional (stand alone with two ways sync) version of the application is also in development, please be patient,it is definitely coming.

As for the money, please notice that 1Password for Android in its current version is absolutely free to use and don't have an expiration date.

Please feel free to download and use it in order to the secure data you've created on your computer on Android phone.

    Best regards,

    Gene

  • I too am a bit disappointed in the functionality in the android version of the app. Long ago I originally installed the iPhone app to keep all my work passwords without writing them all down on little pieces of paper. This worked great for a long time. When I switched to an android phone I immediately looked for the 1password app on the market. I tried backing up my existing passwords to dropbox only to learn that I could only use a desktop client to read/access my info. Then I installed the trial and converted my info to something the android app could read, only to find out it was read only.

I'm looking for something I can use exclusively on my phone. I can't install any software on my work computer, where I use this app the most. I also need something I can backup to an online service so that I don't have to worry about losing my passwords if I happen to lose my phone.

Are these going to be features of the new android app? Without them, I will be looking for something else.

Thanks for the great (free) iPhone app.

  • Without two way sync it's realy hard to rate this as a realy good and usefull password vault on Android. I've been using it on iPhone for a few years and know how good it can be, but on my new droid it seems half-baked. You are giving Android users a sour taste.
  • Hi Mr Sparky (love the handle),

We certainly don't want our Android users to heave a sour taste after using 1Password Reader for Android. We think Android is a fantastic platform, and I personally have both an iPhone 4 and a HTC Desire S and they both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Our focus for the first round of development for Android is to provide Android users with a way to access their 1Password data on their devices since 1PasswordAnywhere is not currently setup for mobile browsers. As Gene mentioned, we are working on a fully functional version of 1Password for Android, but this does require time and resources to implement.

So, with that said, 1Password Reader for Android is certainly not intended to stand alone, it's a companion application to our desktop versions of 1Password, at least for now and as such is free for everyone to use. Please do keep an eye on the Market for updates, and of course our blog over at http://blog.agilebits.com as we'll post details of the future of 1Password for Android there when we know more about availability and pricing.

Thanks for your feedback, we do appreciate it.

    Hello Mr Sparky,

First of all, thank you for your interest in 1Password Reader.

I completely agree with you that to have a fully functional 1Password application with two-ways sync is absolutely critical.

1Password Reader which we have right now on Android is designed as a first stage in the application development cycle, next logical

stage is to build a Stand-Alone application.

However, the Good News is that the Stand-Alone fully editable version of the application is already in the design stage.

It is hard for me to commit to any certain time schedule at this time though. I just posted the latest and the last major release of 1Password Reader with a support for the new 1Password ultra-secure keychain format and many other features. Now I fully concentrate on the editable version of the app. Please be patient and stay tuned for the updates. I hope you like 1Password on Android as a reader, fully editable version, of course, should be much more functional.

Please feel free to share with us your suggestions and recommendations on how to make 1Password for Android and other Agile products better, your feedback is very important for us !

  • Hello GeneY,

i was using 1password pro for two years now in an iphone 3g and before switching to android i checked whether it was available. Alas, i didn't check closely enough.

Anyway, i can understand that editing features might take some time, so i'm wondering if at least i can sync without using dropbox. You can call me weird, but i hate uploading such information

and nothing can persuade me that when i delete something it is really deleted. I did it once, since i could't go on without my data, but i wish i won't have to do it again (which means i'm stuck for the time being).

Right now i'm using my ipad to save all new info and i could almost wait forever if local sync was available, although i would prefer also not to use the pc program and do it straightforwardly from ios to android, since the best backup of each device is the other one.

    Thanks.

    Hello theobabis,

As it stands today, 1Password Reader support only synching with Dropbox.

If you have reservations about Dropbox synchronization, I recommend you to copy your 1Password data file (keychain) directory to your phone's SD card through USB port and configure

1Password Reader to use a local file. Notice that your 1Password data file has all your private information thoroughly encrypted and there is absolutely no way to

decrypt/see it without knowing your Master Password.

  • I have registered and logged in here just so I can also request that the Android app have 2-way syncing.

I can't stress how incredibly irritating it is not to be able to add new passwords or edit existing information via my phone, while I am away from my home computer. I am away all day for 12 hours, and I got 1Password in the first place so I wouldn't have to do unsafe things like email passwords to myself so I won't forget them.

So many websites nowadays require logins and passwords - including this very forum. Please release this app with 2-way syncing as soon as possible, so this thorn in my side can be removed from what otherwise is a great program.

    Thanks,

  • Hello GeneY and stu,

I don't argue the necessity to take your time for developing and testing the fully editable version for android. Personally I prefer a stable and trusty product, especially for this type of application. But I wonder if (as a temporary and partly solution for this issue) a modification of the host-version would be feasible. More specific: It is now possible to export selected entries in passwords table. However the exported info is not encryped and not in the 1Password ultra-secure keychain format that the android program can handle. Couldn't this format be added to the export functionality of 1Password on PC or MAC versions?

    Hello Victor,

I completely agree with you that data import/export is a very important feature, I am planning to introduce it in the stand alone version of the 1Password for Android.

As for PC and Mac versions of 1Password, I suggest you to post a message on Agile forum for the corresponding product providing detailed description of your recommendation,

Agile solution architects will carefully review your request and decide on feasibility of it.
