Feature Request: Change default security level
<div class="IPBDescription">Low vs High</div>Hi there :)
When creating a new item 1Password sets automatically the High Security option
but I definitely would prefer to have them set with Low Security
and make the action to change to High rather than the other way around
expecially because on my iPhone it's handier not to have to input the Master Password so often
Would it be possible somehow to set the Low Security option by default for all new items
so that I can change it to High Security just when I want?
Thanks :)

Hi there yourself, Valentina! I hope your day is going great. :)
Sorry but no, there are no settings to allow you to set the security level by default. This may be something that we do in the future.Flag 0 -

Yes please add this popular request to your todo list ...
And also a way to setup all old entries to low security.
It's really boring to setup tons of entries to low security.
Any chance to see that request soon implemented?

IMHO, the ideal solution to mass changes such as this would be to allow multiple changes via a Get Info function similar to iTunes. Basically, you could could select multiple entries, right click, select Get Info, and then be able to change all the standard fields and settings.
Sample uses:
1. Toggle Autosubmit on selected entries
2. Add the same Note to multiple items
3. Change the password for multiple items (great for corporate users who are forced to change passwords every so often)
4. Change the security option on All items
5. Finally, a way to really implement Tags without spending hours doing it
etc.
Doubt this is ever coming to 1P v3 though. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />Flag 0 -

I don't have a clue on any of this as I don't work for Agile Web Solutions. I was just presenting an idea for a real fix. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
any word on this feature becoming a reality yet?Flag 0

I'm sorry I don't have any news in this regard. I know it's not even close to the same, but please consider creating a Smart Folder with search criteria based on "Security Level" (Low or High) to make shorter work of changing items individually. I switched a good number of mine and just did a handful at a time over the course of a week or so. Again, I know it's not the feature you are requesting, but it is currently available in 1Password.
I hope that helps.Flag 0 -
I know I'm going to be the odd one out on this, but I actually would like to request that the default be "high" security, as it is currently set to "Low" security on my mac by default. I am using the Version 3.5.5.BETA-3 (build 30859).
The reason for this is that 1Password is meant to be about security, so I'd rather have the default as high, erring on the side of caution, and then only change it to low if I think it's unimportant. I use the Android app and as far as I can tell, once I enter the master password, I'm able to access all the info, but even when I had an iPhone I still preferred to have everything on high, just incase someone managed to get hold of my phone while 1Password was still open, to prevent access to all the info.
After all, it is all about security isn't it?
I think a setting in the preference panel wold make everyone happy <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0 -
Thanks for your input! I prefer everything to be high security as well. The smart folder I was describing in my previous post is actually showing low security items (created on my iPhone) that I want to switch to high security. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
Thanks again for letting us know what it useful to you.
Mass/bulk editing is still something we would love to add in the future as well!Flag 0 -

Hi,
Are you saying that in the version that you're using on your Mac, the default for new items is set to "Low" security? I'm using 3.5.2, and the default is set to "High" with no way to change it. I'd welcome a change to "Low" by default, though I can see how others would want "High."
Agree that a preference pane would be a good step; that plus mass edit would be even better. And I'd actually like to have a setting for "None" such that once I've opened 1P on the iPhone using the master password, I can see selected items without having to enter anything again. Standing in a hotel lobby repeatedly entering the password just to get to my frequent traveler number is a hassle.

Doug,
I've just tested with 1Password for Mac 3.5.8 and any new items created on the Mac are automatically set to high-security, so they'll require your unlock code and master password to access them. Items created on the iPhone are automatically set to 'Low Security' so these will just need your unlock code.
If you're using an iOS device that supports iOS 4's multi-tasking features then you can actually specify how long 1Password will leave your master password unlocked by going to More > Settings > Security from within 1Password and changing the auto-lock settings for your unlock code and master password.
I have my unlock code set to auto-lock after 5 minutes and my master password set to 30 minutes, which usually gives me a good window for accessing 'High Security' information without having to re-enter my master password.

Why are we still waiting on this feature? Is it really a huge deal to add an option to change the defaults on new items, even if it were a command line 'defaults write' kind of setting. There are obviously lots of people who would like this feature, it is personally driving me nuts.Flag 0

Hi Jason,
I'm sorry that we haven't been able to add this yet. While we'd love to add every feature to 1Password that we get a request for, we do have limited resources and so we need to carefully decide which features get added at certain points.
I know Chad, one of our developers, looked into some options to make it possible to batch change items, however we ran into a few problems with this and so had to pull the feature.
That doesn't mean we won't add an option to change the default security level for new items, but I can't give you a timeframe for when it may be available.
I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

Is it possible to set Low Security as default ?
JoachimFlag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, Joachim!
Items created in our desktop applications (1Password for Mac and 1Password for Windows) default to high security while items created in our iOS apps (1Password for iPhone, 1Password for iPad, and 1Password Pro) default to low security.
There are a couple improvements here that we are looking into:

One would be the ability to change the default security level on each platform independently.

The other would be a mass- or bulk-editing feature to allow you to change a whole group of items at once.
While neither of those features are implemented right now, they are certainly on our radar for the future. I don't have a time frame for a specific release, but you might at least consider creating Smart Folders for each of the security levels.
For example, I want all my items to be high security, so I have a Smart Folder that shows all my low security items. I don't often create many items on my iOS devices, so I can usually just glance here every now and again to update a handful of items — at most — one at a time. This may not work for everyone but it has served me well while I await some additional improvements in this area.
I hope that helps. Please let me know.Flag 0 -
It would be great if I could select a whole bunch of logins and change the default security for my mobile device to "low security." I find it frustrating when I'm out and about and 1Password asks me for the master password just for grabbing a login for a site. There are a LOT of sites where the login is not something I need high security on my mobile device for, and I don't want to have to go and change each and every one, one at a time.
Thank you.Flag 0 -
Hello tvilot and welcome to the Forums!
I moved your topic to a similar thread.
The ability to mass edit security settings in 1Password has been requested before, but at this time, there is no option for accomplishing this on either the desktop/laptop versions or the mobile versions.
Personally, I make the edits in my desktop application and sync it to my iPhone and iPad using Dropbox. However, you can also use Wi-Fi syncing between 1P for Mac and your iPhone (Note: 1P for Windows does not support Wi-Fi syncing).
For future improvements that AgileBits is looking into, please see Khad's post above: Change default security level
I'm sorry that I don't have a better answer for you at this time, but know that there is hope for the future!
Cheers!

1P is great, but I'd like to second the need to make security level changes more easily. Or even see which are which [i'd like to see security level (high/low) in the multi-row view].
In my experience, the majority of websites that require a login have no high security information from me. That is, they do not have financial or other important personal info. they may not even have my real name. I just want 1p to generate a password and (later) automatically log me into those sites, in order to protect me from their only real danger -- that I need to avoid using a password with them that is similar to truly important passwords, like my bank account.
As a new user to 1p, i'm faced with many many logins, imported from my browser (but still needed), that I frankly shouldn't have to waste time on. Just let me set them to Low-Security, quickly. And in the future, just log in automatically.
Thanks much.Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, rs123!
You may already know this, but for others coming across this thread in the future, I just want to mention that the security setting is only used for 1Password for iPhone. It has no bearing on 1Password for Mac.
I will pass along your vote for the ability to specify the default security level to the developers, though. Thanks for letting us know this would due useful to you as well!Flag 0 -
Plus one for me!

Thanks for your vote, greattypo.
We haven't forgotten this feature, but I can't promise when we'll have it in place.

Just wanted to add my +1 here. I have 350+ logins saved.. I don't think manually changing them all to Low Security sounds like fun.
I want security on my iPhone, but the built-in padlock + the 1password padlock is plenty!

There still is not a way to change the default setting, but you can put all the Logins you wish to change to Low Security into a folder and then right-click on that folder. Hold down the Option key and select "Low Security" to change all the Logins in that folder to Low Security. This is a toggle, so you can do the same to uncheck Low Security.
