Feature Request: Phone Number formats

brucie24

I would really like to be able to choose how a telephone number field is populated.

Currently although I fill the identity phone number field 01234567890 (typical UK string) when a phone number field is populated the number is filled as (01234) 567-890. In all the forms I have ever filled this format is not recognised <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I would also like to be able to rename the 'cell' field as 'mobile' please.

I would add that although this is a major gripe for me I still love 1password and cannot imagine life without it <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Thanks for the feedback, brucie24!

Stu is our UK native, so I will defer to him on the specifics, but I think you make a great point. Perhaps custom templates will help in this regard as well.

I can't give a time frame, but I know Stu is excited for some of the changes we are working on. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

We are always here to help!
  • Hi brucie24,

Agile's native Brit here, as Khad mentioned this is something we're hoping to resolve with custom templates, which will also help with the lack of sort code and account number in the Bank Account template too.

I think the problem we face comes from the different formats of phone numbers, and how web forms can respond to that. I'll discuss with our developers to see if we can do anything to be more UK friendly when it comes to phone number filling, which in itself is quite a challenge.

One thing you could try is formatting the number as 0123 4567890, I find the space can sometimes help and prevent the US style (01234) 567-890 formatting.

I know that doesn't really give you much of an answer at the moment, but we'll continue to work on this, I just don't personally know enough about the form filling code to give you a 'magic bullet' answer right now.

Thanks Khad & Stu for your quick responses. I really look forward to that option even if it's just to remove the brackets and hyphen that would be a start. Anyway as I'm a beta user I shall be waiting excitedly in hope <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Keep up the great work and thanks again for such an awsome application.

    Hi Brucie24,

I don't really have anything substantive to add to this thread, but I used to live in Bedfordshire so my phone number really did begin with 1234. Your sample phone number looked very real to me. I only realized that these were set up alphabetically when I got a call from someone trying to reach Belfast (1235).

Things may have settled down now, but it is also true at the time that some UK phone numbers had a different number of digits than others, which would certainly make automated formatting attempts more difficult. So the idea of having the ability to disable formatting attempts may be a very good thing to look at.

    Cheers,

I'm pretty sure most numbers now have the same number of digits so that's not quite as much of an issue anymore. The main problem is most UK sites tend to ask for the number(s) in just one box and 'numerics' only so spacing etc messes it up. I can't remember the last time I saw a UK form that asked for the area code and number in seperate fields although I'm sure there must be a few.

It sounds like removing formatting would be the simplest option. Thanks for following up on this, brucie24!
