Fluid 1.0 (and Fluidium)

Hey, guys. I love your work! I own 1Password on both of my Macs, my Windows partition, iPhone, and iPad.

I was wondering - I use Fluid to have Remember The Milk open all of the time. When I learned development had stopped on Fluid, I switched to Fluidium (download link) a little while ago. It's Fluid, but open sourced - and it's capable of making 64-bit apps. I can't remember exactly why I switched, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

1Password used to work in Fluid, but doesn't in Fluidium - would it be possible to install the extension for the new single serving browsers, too? Every now and then, Remember The Milk logs me out, and I need to open 1Password and copy/paste my password.

It's not a big deal, even manual instructions for installing the proper extension would be fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, flammable, and thanks for the kind words. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I will pass this along to the developers to see what we can do here. We are focusing most of our resources on Lion support (and surrounding issues), so I can't promise anything right now. This is certainly something we will be dealing with ourselves soon enough. (We love SSBs!) In the mean time, consider sticking with Fluid.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer right now, but we really appreciate the push on this. I hope we can improve this in a future release.

Thank you, khad! I was hoping it was just a framework or plugin I could manually insert. If it doesn't work or is unstable, well...Fluid's still beta, I think.

It's really not a big deal - RTM only logs me out every so often. It just happened again and I figured I'd inquire. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If you know where the Fluid plugin is installed when you click 1Password --> Preferences --> Browsers --> 'Install All Extensions', I'd be willing to give it a shot and report back!

    I might just investigate myself, but with Portal 2 out...I might be distracted for a bit. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks for mentioning this. Fluidium really seems cool, and I wouldn't have been aware of it otherwise.

Unfortunately, the way our Fluid support works won't allow us to offer a simple hack to try it with Fluidium. The 1PasswordAgent process loads the extension bundle on the fly when an SSB is launched, so this is something we will have to do on our end.

Sorry I don't have better news for you, but I just wanted to make you aware of the situation. With Lion imminent, we have our plate full; but hopefully we can work on this once things die down. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thank you, Brent! Lion is huge, totally understand. I appreciate the technical explanation, too.

I had to go digging quite a bit to figure out what happened to Fluid - tracked it down via a tweet the developer made about a year ago. The Fluid blog is a dead link, and the main Fluid page makes no mention of the newer open source project.

    Excited to use 1Password on 10.7! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Any time, man! I just wish I had good news too, and not just an explanation. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

But wow. Fluid is dead too? First Camino and Flock... It's a good thing there are like 6 other browsers alive and kicking. Thank God for Open Source! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

(Additionally, we can thank Marty for the technicals. I didn't know that offhand, and, as always, he was there with the answers!)
  • How exactly does 1PasswordAgent monitor when Fluid starts ? We might be able (depending on the detection mechanism) to monkey-patch the Fluidium application for this.

I don't have technical details to share at the moment, but we are looking into Fluidium support.

Fluid.app is not dead, 1.0 was just released: http://fluidapp.com/ . It’s a complete rewrite from the old codebase, so unfortunately 1Password no longer works with it... I'd put higher priority on fixing that then adding Fluidium support.

I was just going to create a post about 1P not working with the newly released Fluid 1.0 when I found this thread. It's a real convenience to have 1P work with Fluid, and it's now a confusion because one can see Fluid in the list of browsers "supported" by 1P in the browsers tab of 1P's prefs, which would give one the impression that 1P might work with Fluid.

Anyway, I know that Lion support is a top priority (and there are probably others!), but I'd like give my vote for supporting Fluid 1.0 at some point.
  • Hi camner,

Just wanted to let you know that the latest 3.6.0.BETA-25 release of 1Password for Mac has support for Fluid 1.0 <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> You can get the Beta by going to 1Password > Preferences > Updates and checking 'Include Beta Versions' and then clicking 'Check Now' to get this latest update.

    Enjoy!

  • I just downloaded the new Fluid 1.0 and started setting up SSBs. Of course, I want to use 1P in them to manage my login.

I see lots of Google hits that say 1P is available from the context menu. However, I don't see it (at least not in my GMail SSB).

Is 1P (3.5.3) incompatible with Fluid 1.0? Or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Welcome to the forums, Craig! I have merged your post with the appropriate thread. Please see Stu's post above. Also, if you do not wish to use the betas to take advantage of Fluid 1.0 support, please at least update to the latest stable version of 1Password (3.5.9). We have made many improvements with six newer versions in the last four months. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

We are always here to help!

Well, my joy turned to disappointment when I couldn't get the new 1P beta (3.6.0-beta 25) to work with Fluid 1.0. I updated 1P, rebooted the computer, ran Fluid from scratch to make a new SSB, uninstalled and reinstalled browser extensions from within 1P...no luck! 1P doesn't show up in the SSB's contextual menu nor in the Toolbar, nor does the 1P icon show up in the Customize Toolbar menu.

    Am I missing something obvious?

Do you see an extra menu at the top of the screen that looks like a key? I almost missed it the first time, but I'm pretty sure the old Fluid had the same integration.

No problem, flammable. We do what we can. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    Roustem is Too Agile.

Camner, flammable is correct. You should see 1Password in the menu bar:

    The keyboard shortcuts will also work. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Yes, absolutely, I did miss the key! Sorry, and thank you.

I guess I'm used to using the contextual menu, rather than the key or the keyboard shortcuts (I don't even know what they are, alas...but I'm sure I can find them somewhere!). I assumed (without cause) that the contextual menus would work in the new Fluid as it did in the old. Does that await future development, or is that not in the cards? (Or is that even knowable at this point?).

Anyway, thanks to the Agile folks for this quick support of Fluid!

No problem, camner! I can't say what the future holds at the moment, but I hope the menu bar icon will suffice for the time being. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

You can set the keyboard shortcuts to whatever you wish (as long as there is no conflicting shortcut) in 1Password's preferences on the Logins pane.

Thanks for all the great information about using 1P with Fluid. I had a question about using 1P when the Fluid SSB is configured as a MenuExtra. Basically, It seems that there's no way to access 1P when the SSB is a MenuExtra- the key in the menu bar isn't there (since the MenuExtra doesn't have a menu bar), the contextual menu doesn't show up, and the key combo doesn't trigger it either. I recorded a short screencast to demonstrate the problem. Note that when the SSB is a normal application, the 1P contextual menu is there, but when it's a MenuExtra the meun isn't there:

Has anyone had any luck getting this to work? Note that I'm still using a SSB made with Fluid 0.9.6 and 1P 3.5.9. I'm still waiting for my Fluid 1.0 license code (just purchased this morning) and will let you know if it works any differently. Thanks for any help and to Agile for the great product!
  • Upgrading to the 3.6 Beta worked for me... awesome. Thanks guys!

Hmmm...are you using Fluid 1.0? When I use 1.0, I don't get a contextual menu (the way your screencast shows). Only in .96 (the old version of Fluid). Whoops...just realized I didn't read your post carefully enough....you're using 0.9.6. My apologies.

Unfortunately, bradsmith74 is correct. 1Password loads the extension in the menu bar for Fluid and the menu bar is not present for an SSB that is itself in the menu bar. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

We'll see if there is anything we can do about this in the future, but in the mean time you will need to copy and paste your login information there.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer right now.
