Automated login for websites using BioPassword Flash login

Jim Sifferle
edited April 2011 in Mac
I have just purchased the Mac/Windows 1Password bundle. My primary banking website uses a BioPassword Flash authentication module which doesn't appear to work with 1Password. The Flash module appears to only allow direct keyboard input, not copy/paste or any other form of automated login. What can I do within 1Password to support access to this site? If nothing else, what's the best workflow to open 1Password and view the login credentials when I go to the site?

Thanks,

Jim

    Hiya, Jim! Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Unfortunately, where AutoFill fails, the fallback is good old copy & paste. If your bank's site is using Flash and does not permit either of these I am afraid 1Password is powerless in this situation[sup]1[/sup]. I am sorry that I do not have better news. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

This sort of thing really rubs me the wrong way as a customer, though, when services do this sort of thing. First of all, it encourages people to use short, easy-to-remember (and easy-to-guess) passwords, since they have to recalls them and type them in manually each time. Second, Flash is notoriously insecure, and, while I have certainly encountered sites that use it on their login page, the idea of a site as sensitive as a financial institution disturbs me greatly.

If you don't have much of a choice as far as who you do your banking with, I would strongly suggest you use Google Chrome as your web browser. Each tab is sandboxed, so that a crash or exploit in one cannot affect the others. And it updates automatically and comes with its own integrated Flash player, so that you will always be up-to-date with the latest security fixes without having to deliberately "keep up."

Again, I am sorry that I don't have a better solution for you, but hopefully this will be helpful at least. If there is anything else we can do for you, just let us know. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

[sup]1[/sup] At least on the Mac. One of the coolest features the Windows version of 1Password has is AutoType. You may have better luck with this. We hope to add this to the Mac version as well in the future.
