Unable to use my existing keychain with a new computer
I'm having some trouble using my 1Password.agilekeychain with a new computer. This happened to me the last time I added a new computer.
It's a Mac running 10.6.7 using Dropbox to sync.
The keychain is in my Dropbox and works fine with two of my other computers. When I try to use it with the new system, I get one of three different error messages.
I get
NSGenericException: Attempt to lock /Volumes/paul/Dropbox/App Support/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain/.lock failed unexpectedly

or
AGDatabaseError: The encryption keys file does not exist at 'file://localhost/Users/paul/Dropbox/App Support/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain/data/default/1password.keys'

or
Invalid Data File
Data File 'file://localhost/Users/paul/Dropbox/App Support/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain/' is incorrect or damaged. Please choose another file.

I have tried setting the path in the 1P prefs. I tried setting it using the "Find Existing" on the welcome screen. And I even tried double clicking the keychain, but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hiya, zadie!
This really sounds like a combination of problems, and may be too complicated to troubleshoot this over the forums.
If it isn't too much trouble, could you please send us a Diagnostics Report on each of your computers? You can do this by launching 1Password and going to Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report... and then either dragging the icon to an email or using Export to save it and attach it manually.
Also, be sure to include a link to this thread so we can connect the two, and as much information as you can so we know which systems are working properly and which ones have the problem. Being able to compare the data from each should help us get to the bottom of this faster.
Thanks! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Hey Brent. Thanks for the response.
I would like to run a diagnostics report, but I'm having another problem now. Each time I try to open the keychain on the new computer, 1Password deletes numerous files inside the keychain. I then log into Dropbox and restore each folder that was deleted from within the keychain package.
This happened yesterday with each attempt that I mentioned in the original post. After restoring the files in DB, the working computers accessed the keychain just fine. But when I try it today I get a 1Password 3 database upgrade notice. When I run the upgrade, the keychain is deleted from the Dropbox folder.
So, now I am unable to open the keychain with any computer.
Ideas?

Hey Zadie,
I'm sorry that you are still having trouble.
The first error message shown seems to indicate that your Home and/or Dropbox folder(s) are on drive other than your system volume, is that the case?
Please move your data file outside your Dropbox folder on all your Macs while troubleshooting.
Restore a backup from within 1Password on one of the Macs where everything was working well (File > Restore Data File from Backup), rebuild your data file (Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File), and then change your master password (Preferences > Security). You can change it back immediately if you wish, but this will regenerate the keys file in the second error message. Once everything is working well, then we can try to get Dropbox syncing working again, but only place your data file in the Dropbox folder on one Mac and then let is sync to the others. If you place two data files, you are likely to see errors and conflicts.
Also, just out of curiosity, have you moved your entire "Application Support" folder from your Home folder to your Dropbox folder or is the folder "App Support" just coincidently named?
The sooner you can get us a Diagnostics Report the better. To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilewebsolutions.com. (If you can grab one from each Mac that was syncing, that would be ideal.)
Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
