Specify Type on CSV Import Records

<div class="IPBDescription">Import mixture of types with mapping from CSV</div>Hi

I have several hundred 'passwords' in a master list, even after I have pruned them. They are a mix of 1Password types, including Logins, Accounts, Software and Wallet. I want to export from Excel to CSV before importing to 1Password. I can do pre-processing to classify them.

I recognise the different types have different field layouts/requirements.

1. On CSV import to 1Password for Mac, can I 'map' a column for the type? Or do I have to create one CSV transfer file for each type and load each into a different section?

2. Is there any documentation on the 'record layout' of CSV rows for importing to the different Vault Types?

Thanks. Good application, especially the sync across mixed device types.

  • Hi Martin,

Thanks for your post. At the moment our CSV importer is limited to importing into the 'Logins' and 'Secure Notes' vaults of 1Password as we describe here, including how to map the appropriate fields:

    http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/import_passwords.html

This is something we want to improve with future updates, but I don't have a timeframe for when this will be available. There's also a 'tip' for importing into the 'Software' vault by using the License Keeper import format by following this tip:

    http://blog.agile.ws/2010/05/596479043/

So, with that said, you will need to separate out your Logins, Secure Notes and Software items and then import them separately. The other item types will need to be entered manually, but you could import them into 'Secure Notes' first, so that you at least have the data secured within 1Password and then copy them to the new item types as you get the time.

    Hope that helps,

  • Hi Stu

Thanks for the response. Not what I had hoped, but better than wasting a ton of time looking for a facility that is not there. Given the limits, note for info of other customers in the same situation that I have decided on this approach.

    - Start using 1P across Macs, iPhones & iPads immediately, so it starts building up the database by use.

    - Import all live records as Secure Notes just for the meantime. (While this misses smart facilities based on structured data like Go and Fill, the interface is no worse than pasting from the current spreadsheet and immediately gives me far superior encryption, search & sync.)

    - Build up Logins by importing from Safari/Keychain and Firefox.

    - Build up Software by drag & drop.

    - As my PA or I get time, paste across the separate elements into new Logins, Accounts, Identities and Wallets. (Deleting the temporary Secure Note each time.)

Question. I have tested browser import (like) and Software D&D. 1P creates the application entry and version but doesn't import License Key, which is the biggie. Expected behaviour? Anything else I can do to get it grabbed (like Admin login)? If a limit, feature request please - if 1Password looks up name, icon and version, can it please please look up Key too.

    Regards.

Unfortunately, applications save their license "keys" and other related information in numerous ways. 1Password has no way to programmatically locate, read and then populate that data into its Software License. The name and version number are stored in standard ways by each application so we can load that data. Any other data that you wish to store must be filled in by hand. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />
