Chrome Auto-Locks even while active

Mark Badolato
edited May 2011 in Windows
When I use 1Password on my Mac, the Inactivity lock doesn't lock my browser plugin as long as I've used it in the past [whatever inactivity time is set to]. So, if I have it set for 1 hour, and use the browser plugin to log me into the site at 59 minutes (since last use), it will reset the timer and stay unlocked for another hour.

On my Windows 7 machine at work, browser usage is ignored. If I unlock the plugin and use it repeatedly throughout the hour, at the 1 hour mark, it automatically locks on me. I would like to have the timer go from inactivity time, not from unlock time. I'm using the plugin on Chrome (Stable), and I believe it happened when I was still using Firefox as well, but it's been a while since I've used FireFox.

  • Mark, welcome to the forum!

Please make sure you're using the latest build of 1Password for Windows, and let us know if you're still seeing that problem.

I believe the new "leave extensions unlocked" option introduced a kink in the auto-lock logic, and your results will help us track it down.

    Thanks!

    Hi David,

    I'm using 1.0.5.189.

    Chrome is 11.0.696.60.

I am not using the Leave Extensions Unlocked When Browser is Closed option.

I'd be happy to provide any other info or assistance tracking this down.

    Take care,

As noted in Requirements in the user's guide, 1Password for Windows is tested for compatibility with Chrome 10.

Please try the latest stable build of Chrome 10, and let us know if the problem persists.
  • Oooooooh! Slightly off topic, but Agile, I LOVE YOU <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'm so happy with this new "leave unlocked" feature, it might actually convince me to go back to 1password.

Now if ONLY you'd implement my last and only wish, after which I'll propose to you (never mind I'm Married) <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> Please, pretty please implement login Profiles, so that my work Google login, husband's Google login and private Google Login don't all show up at once... but only under the selected profile (or folder).

    Thanks <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0137-clapping.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(clap)' />

    Hi David,

That 11.0.696.0 is the latest stable branch release. Stable was moved to version 11 last week. http://www.chromeplugins.org/google-chrome-news/27-bugs-fixed-for-chrome-stable-channel-moved-to-version-11/

This is a work machine so I do not want to mess around with trying to downgrade stable to a previous 10.x release.

    Sorry to keep you waiting! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

This is definitely something we would like to do, but at the moment all of the extensions lock and unlock separately from each other and the main 1Password application. It may be something we can do in the future, but it will require some significant changes -- if it is even possible. But that won't stop us from trying. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I would love to see this myself. Thanks for the nudge! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I'm not entirely sure I understand the problem you're having. Can you please download our latest version and try again?

If the problem is still there, please let me know. I would love to reproduce and fix this for you.

    Thanks, Stefan.

    Hello again, Mark!

I just wanted to apologize for misunderstanding you earlier. I tested this myself, and while this bug is present in the current stable version (1.0.6.202), this is fixed in the latest beta (1.0.7.BETA-209), so we should have this out to everyone soon. Thanks again for bringing this up! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • Hi guys!

I'm running the current 1.0.8 beta (213) and will specifically watch to see if it happens today. Last I recall, it happened yesterday, but it may not have (I may have had the extension lock when I locked my computer, which is to be expected).

Stefan: To answer you, this is what I do

    1) Unlock the Chrome extension, use it to fill in a site's password

    2) Surf around, do other work etc, all the while having the browser open and doing things, including using the extension to login to other websites

    3) After the timeout period has passed by, the extension is locking itself, even if I have used it recently. Meaning, let's say I unlocked it 59 minutes ago, then sign into Amazon right now. 1 minute later (when the 1 hour unlock expiration hits), the extension locks and I need to use my Master PW to unlock it again next time I use it. On my Mac, the Safari extension's unlock timer appears to reset if I use it again, so in the above scenario, at 59 minutes I would use it for Amazon and it wouldn't lock again for another hour (assuming I didn't use it again during the hour since using it at Amazon).

Again, it may be working properly in the beta. I'll test today and get back to you!

    Thanks,

    --mark
  • Ok, I just confirmed that it is still not working properly (or, not working in the same way that the Mac Safari plugin is working).

    1) 1Password Application auto-lock is set to After 60 minutes of Inactivity

    2) Locked when Computer is Locked and Lock when Screensaver is Activated are both checked

    3) Leave Extension unlocked when browsers are closed is NOT set

    4) I unlocked the Chrome extension just before 10:00 AM (I didn't note specifically)

    5) I've been using my computer and browser, non stop since then (no locking of the computer)

    6) At 10:42 I used the Chrome extension to log me into a site

    7) At 10:57 I heard the Lock sound activate and the extension is now locked
  • You are correct, Mark! This bug is present in 1.0.8.beta-213. I have reported it, and hopefully we can get this fixed in an update. I am sorry for the trouble.
  • Is there a way to adjust the timeout value on Chrome? it locks after about 20 minutes (the specified value in the default 1Password program) even if I am constantly using the browser. It's REALLY annoying that I have to keep unlocking it when I am obviously still using the browser. I love the 1Password plugin on Chrome compared to FireFox, wish they where the same.

I hope you don't mind, but I merged your post with the appropriate topic. We are aware of the issue and hope to have it fixed in a future update.

Build #215 should fix this. Can you confirm this, please?
  • Hi Stefan,

Build 215 is not showing up yet. I have 214 installed, and allow Beta updates, but I'm getting told that I have the latest build

    That's because Stefan hasn't released 1.0.8.215 yet. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

You can always see the full list of releases, including Beta builds (if you click the button), here:

  • Hi guys,

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. Everything seems to be working well now (Build 215). I've logged into the extension once this morning and it still hasn't locked on me, so all seems to be ok! I'll let you know if I run into any issues.

    Thanks
  • Thanks for the follow-up, Mark.
