Feature Request: SpiderOak Support
First apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. I did do a quick search of the forums.
Probably my fault for not reading any accompanying documentation but on purchasing the iPad app I'm a bit miffed to discover that my only sync options are WiFi or Dropbox. My choice but I refuse to use Dropbox so my choices are somewhat limited.
I often feel that Agile are almost pushing Dropbox onto me but I am aware that you do mention other clients - Spideroak is my client of choice. I'm sure there are good reasons why the iPad app doesn't support Spideroak but from my point of view it is a bit of a pointless purchase.e
But then nobody forced me to buy the app

Welcome to the forums, Catcher. I'm sorry if the sync situation was unclear before you made the purchase. We try to be very upfront about everything.
At the moment we think that between offering both local LAN syncing via Wi-Fi and cloud syncing via Dropbox most users will find a satisfying solution. We understand that some may be unhappy with both options, though, and are considering other options for the future. One thing to note is that if you do not require syncing with the mobile apps, the desktop clients will work with most file-based sync solutions. Unfortunately, since the mobile apps do not have the same access to the file system that the desktop apps have, we need to add the necessary sync code directly into 1Password ourselves rather than rely on a separate application (like SpiderOak for Mac). So while it certainly is not impossible, it will increase development time and — perhaps more importantly — increase support required. Even having more than one single sync solution is challenging. Too many options may have diminishing returns. That said, if everyone demands SpiderOak support and refuses to use Dropbox, I can't imagine we would drag our heels for very long at all. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now, but we really do appreciate the feedback. Thanks so much for letting us know how you feel! We are listening to what you and our other customers are requesting. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Hello and thanks for your response, even if my subject line has been changed <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I won't hold my breath for Spideroak support but if it happens in the future then that would be good.
However as no one else has rallied to the cause...<img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Thanks for understanding. We never say "never," but to keep expectations realistic, I think it is only fair to be as honest as possible.
Also, I promise I only changed the subject in order to make it easier for like-minded folks to find the thread. I want to make it easier for folks to agree with you and rally together if they want to. Nothing nefarious. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />

My name is Jovan and I work for SpiderOak so I hope you don't mind that I chime in. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
We definitely understand our share and sync features are behind which is why we are working to improve them without compromising the level of security we offer.
SpiderOak 4.0 will be release very soon and this build will pave the way for some exciting things we can't wait to get out to all our SpiderOak users.
Please continue sharing your thoughts and concerns because we literally take these and jot them down on our list the whole team can view.
Also, we do have an iPad app, but this app needs some improvement as well. If you haven't tried it out already, go to the app store and give it a try. We are soon releasing an updated build for Android then time to focus on iPhone/iPad and other platforms!!
Thanks everyone!Flag 0 -
Thanks for the post, Jovan, it's great to hear yourself and the team at SpiderOak are listening to feedback, and I highly respect your position on not compromising your security.
For 1Password to support SpiderOak syncing there are quite a few things we need, mainly API support for mobile platforms as well as support for resource forks and file bundles with the desktop syncing applications. We're by no means shutting the door on other sync solutions, but we're quite a small team ourselves so we do need to ensure that our development resources are used in the right areas, right now they're focused on getting 1Password ready for Mac OS X Lion's launch next month as well as Firefox 5 and Safari 5.1 under Snow Leopard.
Thanks again for the post, we really do appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestion, hgp!
SpiderOak syncing may work fine already on the desktop (I haven't tested it personally), but the issue is that because of iOS's sandboxing we would need to have access to mobile APIs in 1Password for iOS since we can't rely on third-party solutions in iOS as we can on the desktop platforms.
My first post in this thread probably explains it more clearly than I think I can at the moment. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0 -
Thanks but i think that a button is only a option because now there want also sugarsync.
And the pc verion is only temperly you can delete it after install so i dont use the pc version.
I reed that sugarsync is givis trouble with files bundle ,oke that is e reason.
In the future you want to talk about more options but now the people want,
Icloud, sugarcynce, spideroak and dropbox so i think that is a challenge and not a easy one.
What i also reed is that people only whant a cloud store and in the second place the use of 1password.
The use of 1password is to secure the password and not to use tru 1password the internet?Flag 0 -
Thanks for the follow up, hgp
As you rightly point out, providing additional sync solutions is a challenge, there are many things we have to consider for a truly reliable and secure sync solution for your 1Password data.
iCloud isn't going to be available to the 'masses' until the fall, so it's far too early for us to add this, but we are certainly looking into other options besides Dropbox.
We'll keep everyone updated, both here and on our blog over http://blog.agilebits.com
Thanks for your feedback,

In light of the recent disclosures that Dropbox is made of fail when it comes to security, I'd like to join the crowd asking for Spideroak support.

I'll echo Dane here. Dropbox's recent security issues have me really wanting to not use them, and since I need a password solution that syncs across two laptops, an iphone, and an ipad, it's really important to me. I haven't looked into Spideroak yet, but I plan on it. Anything seems to be better than Dropbox at this point.Flag 0

I am very, very, concerned that DropBox had this last problem of 4 hour access; to the point that I will not use it with 1Password anymore. I would really hope that Agile considers going with at least one other online syncing solution. As of yet I have not heard anything negative about SpyderOak. So perhaps you can look in to the feasibility of using this service as an alternative to those who care about their security.Flag 0

Welcome to the forums, newcomers, and thanks to all of you for the votes here. I will certainly be passing this along to the developers as always.
As you might imagine, there has been much chatter about cloud syncing security amongst the team lately. Much of the discussion has happened publicly here in the forums. Check out the cloud sync security thread if you are interested in why your sensitive 1Password data is still completely safe no matter where it is stored.
There are a lot of interesting cloud sync solutions blossoming lately, and we are keeping our options open. It does appear that SpiderOak has a very devoted following. I am a fan myself from what I have seen so far, but I don't have anything specific to announce at this time.
If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

I've closed out my Dropbox account in response to their numerous and well documented failures, and given that Dropbox is the only cloud-based option that 1Password currently supports, the same fate awaits *your* product. I submit that support for a secure cloud-based storage application (such as spideroak) isn't optional for 1password: it's a hard requirement if you wish to retain paying customers.Flag 0

Welcome to the forums, lyric! Please make yourself at home.
I am not sure what more I can add to what has already been said in this thread (specifically my post directly above your own), elsewhere in these forums, on our blog, and in the 1Password User Guide.
Thank you for your words of encouragement. We appreciate you taking the time to post them.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Dear all, if you don't like dropbox i do not understand.
In the first place if you use 1password for surfing the internet you must think if someone is going'in' your pc he also is in 1password.
So ware is the security you want? In deed its open and now?
So don't blame it on the guys from 1password.
And for the two actions that spideroak want it is not working because you must averytime change your password in for 1password for the the 12 houres
Of the token the you need,
This is not a option to work with.
I have great hope that 1password coms with a good idea to resolf the problems.Flag 0 -
Actually my initial request was made well before the DB thing kicked off and was made because of the lack of choice in syncing options - DB or WiFi - on the iPad.
I quite like the 1P product hence I paid for two licences and use it. I do not like DB and don't use it.
I'm not blaming the guys at Agile for anything.
