Bank login problem

Anyone else having trouble using 1Password to log into the Northern Trust website? Their login does some weird things. After entering login/password and clicking the green arrow to continue, the login and password fields revert to the generic "User ID" and "Password" text before going to the next page. When I saved the login, 1Password actually had saved "User ID" as the text to be entered in the field instead of my username. I changed it manually to the correct username but it still won't work. Now when 1Password fills in the form, my password shows up in both the "User ID" field and in the "Password" field - both as plaintext. The password field is grayed out but is text and not bullets. (If I click in the password field, the text is replaced by bullets.) Any ideas?

    Wow. I just looked at that site's code. What a nightmare! The bad news is that I do not believe it will work in our Safari or Firefox extensions at the moment. The good news is that the site does work well in Chrome which is making use of our very latest form filling code, so we do have a "fix," but I do not currently have a time frame for when it will be ported to our Safari/Firefox extensions. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, though. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

    You could also give the 1Password extension in Google Chrome a try if you were interested in an immediate solution. I'd love to know how it goes if you do.

    One caveat is that you will need to save the login anew in Chrome since the form [i]saving[/i] code has also been updated. And since the site is not actually providing any names for the fields, you will need to tell 1Password which field to use for your username. After that, it appears to finally be filling well for me.

    Step by step:

    [list=1]

    [*]Save a new login for [url="http://www.northerntrust.com/"]Northern Trust[/url] in [url="http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/google_chrome_support.html"]Google Chrome[/url]

    [list=1]

    [*]Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    [*]Click the 1Password button in Chrome's toolbar, and choose Save new Login.

    [*]Set the Action field to Create New Login (or to Replace <login-name>, to update an existing Login item).

    [*]Click the Save button.

    [/list]

    [*]Edit the login in 1Password and ensure that your username and password are designated as such by placing the checkmark in the appropriate column of the "All Fields" section.

    [*]Do a little dance (optional, but wouldn't hurt)

    [*]Try filling the login

    [/list]

    I hope that helps. Like I said, this is not an easy site to fill, but it seems to be working well in Chrome for me. If you are still having trouble, please take a look at our "[url="http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/login_issues.html"]Website Login Issues[/url]" guide.

    Note especially that [b]editing the login to change the Submit value from "If Autosubmit is ON" to "Never"[/b] works on a lot of sites which modify the form before submitting it or are looking for a literal key press or mouse click. This will give you the chance to actually give them what they are looking for by submitting the form yourself rather than allowing 1Password to do it on your behalf.

    Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I may consider switching to Chrome at some point but the idea of getting my various add-ons, etc. is a bit much to solve this one minor problem.

    For now my work-around will be to turn autosubmit off and replace the login name manually before submitting the form. 1Password does enter the password correctly--it's just a bit unsettling to see it appear in plaintext.

    Thanks again.

    It is no trouble at all. I love trying to help. Your decision to not switch browsers for one login is completely understandable. We hope to have the updated code in Safari and Firefox eventually, and we appreciate your patience in the mean time.

    Agreed. Unfortunately, prior to some insanely brilliant logic Dave and Roustem have cooked up in the new code, there was simply no way for 1Password to know where to put any information on a page that doesn't label input fields. (It was like shelving books with no title or author at a library.) If security is paramount, and you are concerned about shoulder surfers, consider the less convenient method of copying and pasting your password from 1Password.

    I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time, but help is on the way. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
