Scottrade changed their login page a bit... now stuck
Scottrade recently changed their login page just slightly http://www.scottrade.com/ I have a few scottrade accounts and I'm not sure how to get prompted to fix them all. It looks like the password field changed from "password" to "passwordPlaceholder" which I manually changed in the edit field but still no luck. I have "auto submit" also turned off. I suppose I could have 1Password figure out what to do if I deleted each of my scotttrade URL entries but that's going to be annoying to have to set them all back up again. Any suggestions how to fix things? Thanks

I'm sorry that you're having this problem. Please try saving the login manually like this:
1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.
2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and choose Save Login.
3. Set the Action field to Create New Login (or to Replace <login-name>, to update an existing Login item).
4. Click the Save button.
Manually saving a login can be useful for logins that are either problematic to begin with or were once working but have since stopped. Doing this allows 1Password to refresh everything it "knows" about the page. Login pages often change as websites are updated and this can be a necessary but very useful tip. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
I hope that helps. Please let me know.

Thanks Khad, that's excellent to know about (maybe under the shortcut menu you could have "update login" instead of just "save login" since it's not super intuitive that there would be an option to 'update' a login under the save option - I was thinking "well, I don't need to save it, since it's already saved, I just need to know how to update it." )
In this particular case with Scottrade I was still having issues trying to "update" things. First in Chrome I couldn't get it to update at all - It just didn't seem to update the fields correctly
https://img.skitch.com/20110516-sx3baa4uggjjaauxdmxjmsihx.jpg
Notice that the username and password were not filled out (but it did put my username as a property in the bottom section) and for some reason the URL went to some different one other than the base url I was on (www.scottrade.com)
I decided to try in firefox and the update of the username password worked as expected yet it wouldn't log me in because at one point I needed the login to not "auto login" so it was set to never login. Interestingly now with their changes it looks like the opposite needs to be set... I had to switch things to "autosubmit if on" and then the updated login worked. (My guess is that's all I would have needed to change in the first place... I probably didn't even need to save it as an update with the save login dialog.)
So the question is, shouldn't there be a way to mimic filling out the form without actually logging in? I know that should be what "never" is for within the autosubmit option, but in this case setting that never didn't work at all (it used to for scottrade though) - Currently, when set to 'never' you do not see the password field completed.
Not a super big deal since autocomplete auto seems to be ok now, was just curious though.Flag 0 -
Hm. Sounds very curious indeed.
My experience was a bit different. I simply entered the account name and password on scotttrade.com in Chrome and clicked "Save New Login" from the 1Password extension.
An aside: the Chrome extension is using our very latest form filling code, so if it is your default browser, you will likely have the best saving/filling experience at the moment. We plan to port the changes back to the Safari/Firefox extensions, but I don't have a time frame at the moment.
The login 1Password saved in Chrome was extremely straightforward.

As you mention, autosubmit appears to be working well, but I don't have an actual account to test with.

That is truly strange. I am able to easily reproduce this on the Scottrade site and will pass this along to the developers.
It's hard to say exactly what might have happened, but if I am really having trouble with a site, I will just move the Login to the trash and save a new one manually as you did. That gives me a clean slate to determine if there are any saving/filling issues. Of course, I am also trying to troubleshoot 1Password since I work here. It shouldn't be a chore for our users. Thankfully, logins usually Just Work™ most of the time and a change in a website's code does not happen very frequently.
Besides the wording of "Save New Login" vs "update" and this odd autosubmit issue, is there anything else we could do here to improve? We really appreciate the feedback!Flag 0 -
Well, unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is much we can do here. The site is using some JavaScript "tricks." I imagine you prefer autosubmit enabled, but if for some reason you want it disabled, try using this URL. It seems to work very well (with less JavsScript silliness). <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I hope that helps.

The only thing I REALLY need (brought up in another post) is a way to save the secure notes in a mono-spaced serif font. I know others have requested this as well. It would be EXTREMELY helpful.
With my work I have some network and ssh passwords that are just better being saved in one place within a secure note. The issue is the secure notes are stored in a sans serif font so determining if it's the number "1" or the lowercase letter "l" is very difficult ( same thing with zero vs letter O.)
1Password is great though! And keep up the great work with it. The fact you that you guys are so prompt in support is EXCELLENT also!
Thanks again for the product!Flag 0 -

Understandable. Thanks for letting us know.

I'm sure you have your reasons, but I notice I don't run up against this issue when I copy and paste them. They are too long for me to "eyeball" anyway, but we will certainly take the monospace suggestion under advisement!
Thank you for the very kind words. We have the best customers on the planet, so it makes our jobs easy. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />

I was having the same issue using Chrome for Mac (haven't tried other browsers lately). I was trying to log in on https://trading.scottrade.com/default.aspx. Every time 1Password would fill the fields, both username and password would fill, but Scottrade would give an error response. When it errored, the password field would go blank, but the username field would stick.
SOLUTION: I did as rickcr mentioned above, and set the Submit setting in 1Password to "Never," and, lo and behold, it works! On top of that, it actually does auto-submit. Wha?! Anyway, this is a solution as of now.Flag 0
